I want to get a Garmin GPS system that can give you live traffic updates. Well the one that can do that says you need a GTM10 in order to do that. Ok well thats nice the only problem is, what the heck is a GTM10 where do I get that from, how does that work, how much does that cost? Is there an easier way to do this?

When I search for these answers I cant find anything, so I am turning to trusty yahoo answers. If anyone out there has maybe even another brand but they have the live traffic and road reports and you can tell me about your setup that would be nice too.

First off, do not look at the GTM10 if you want traffic. This device you have to pull the radio from the car to connect to the antenna system. Pain in the $%$ The GTM12 is much easier.
Or, if you get a Nuvi660 or c550, they will come with the traffic receiver which is built into the cigarette adapter.
I do not use traffic either. The traffic information comes from traffic network which you can find online as well that gives some good information on their services. Also check to make sure your area is covered, as it is only for major cities. (captain of the obvious, probably not too many traffic reports with cows in the middle of nowhere)

I have a GPS without the traffic updates and it works fine (one less thing to break). I also have an XM radio that gets traffic updates. I have found that the updates are almost always behind what is actually happening. I get stuck in a jam before it is announced or take an alternate route because of an announcement only to find out that the jam had cleared out. Until we can get real-time updates it is not that realiable.
