so I just got engaged a few weeks! We are getting enagement pics done any time now. WE are not planning to get married for another 2 1/2 years. (waiting for us to both be out of college) I was thinking about sending out our engagement announcement with pics in them any time soon! should I or is it too early?

I would do it now that way you get the word out. If you wait to do it, you will have so much going on with planning the wedding that it might slip your mind. Since guys are useless when it comes to planning a wedding, take time and to things when you have the chance! Dont let things pile up and get stressful :) Congrats!

It depends on what you're doing-are you trying to tell people to save the date for the reception? If so use normal save the date wording and templates allowing them to save the date for the reception. If you're announcing your engagement only you don't put any details about the wedding on it. Just state Bride and Groom joyfully announce their engagement as of March 10, 2007. I think save the dates are more useful but engagement announcements help spread the word, especially to family and friends you don't see a lot. Wedding announcements come after the wedding and are mostly used now if you had a small ceremony and reception or destination wedding with very few people. You would then announce that you two are now officially a couple, your new address, and the name of new couple (i.e. if the female changes her last name.)

It's not too early at all. Many young couples these days pay for their own weddings, and consequently end up having long engagements in order to save enough money to pay for the wedding. Most people that know you well will probably know that you'll postpone the actual wedding until you've both graduated anyway. However, if you don't mind waiting a few weeks, it may be a good idea to send off your announcements in time for Valentine's Day (about a week before the actual holiday should be fine).

I never heard of sending out engagement announcements. People put the picture and information in the newspaper and that's it. Otherwise, a personal handwritten note to close friends saying how happy you are is okay. Do not sent out mass announcements---it looks like you are asking for gifts, and those should only come with the wedding.

I would wait if I were you, I mean your not really getting married until another 2 1/2 years. You will need to send reminder to ppl again when the day gets close. I would have an engagement party and as the day's go by and the day gets closer than i would send them. Its like sending your child's baptism invitations now and your not even pregnant. So this is my opinion, but either way CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can go ahead and send the announcements out now, no problems with that. You could always state in your announcement you plan on a "Spring 2009" wedding.

It's never too soon to announce your engagement. If you both feel like now's a good timing, then go for it.

We actually didn't do engagement announcements, we just told people ourselves that we got engaged.

I think it's too early to get engagement photos done. If you don't have a definite set date then I would not announce the engagement. That's just my opinion.

Engagement announcements are done in the newspaper - not by mail.
