Some time ago I noticed a small, flat, round and pinkish mark on my leg that looked like an ingrown hair, or a really angry pimple. It has been over a few months, and there is no change in it. Does anyone else have a problem like this? I don't think it to be more than a nuisance, and dislike it solely because of aesthetics, as it does not hurt in any way. I am open to suggestions on what to do with it, because so far, every time I've went to the doctor's, I keep forgetting to mention it.

Hello:
This skin lesion you have and based on the description you have given me sounds like what is called, "angioma" or "capillary hemangioma". Sounds scary, however they are benign and are quite common, especially if you are exposed to the sun a lot. The diagnostic test to determine if that is what it is, is to press on it and let go. If the area blanches and then the redness returns, then it is probably an angioma. Other possibilities include post traumatic hyperpigmentation, hyperpigmented scar tissue.
If it has not grown in size, is not tender, you can do what is called "watchful waiting" to see if it resolves, however, if you notice any changes whatsoever in this lesion, get to a dermatologist immediately. Warning signs for skin cancer include a change in size of the lesion, change in the shape from round to irregular, having irregular borders, a glossy waxy appearance to the lesion, the lesion being multi-colored like brown, black, purple.
From the info you have given me, it sounds like a benign skin lesion that is nothing to worry about other than its appearance and aesthetics.
I hope this helped answer your question and alleviate some of your concerns.
Best of luck.
To your health!
Warren Shaffer, M.D.
