What do you guys think about the new scientific evolutionary research that theorizes that humans did not have religion until the full development of our frontal lobes? With this development we were able to conceptualize death, and therefore created a belief system to explain and give meaning to death. In other words, we created religion out of fear.

There is no doubt that we created religion out of fear. Volcano god's on down all started by a fear of our world and a fear of death - and we humans have tried to scramble and adjust to appease whatever anger causes ill in our world (be that natural phenomenon, our parents, our schools or bosses). I think the bottom line is that humans just live their life until they notice a problem, and then they come up with a tool or a solution of some kind to help them cope with that. Religion is nothing more than a tool - a way for us to interpret the world around us and provide answers that can give us peace of mind and the strength to carry on.

Peace!

I can only comment that the theory of evolution says nothing about the development of the concept of death, belief systems, or fear. It only mentions biological factors. Have a great day!

Koko the Gorilla seems to have a conception of death. No I think religion evolved when we developed language as a means of control. We understood death long before we developed language I think.

evolutionary theories claim that man is a mere specie like bacteria and hydras, originally an ape ....complete nonsense how the ape whose focus is always centered on the ground , all of a sudden straightens up and looks up to heaven.. is this drastic evolution or what? those darwin theories follows a string that leads us even to question our very basics,we lose our humanity bit by bit what is left to us to cling to but religion ..this is what i call self-destruction......... Mankind wake up from this nightmare!!!

Sounds right. But dont forget that, prior to forming ideaologies concerning the meaning of life and death, we were all born with a "voice inside our heads" - and early man was unable to differentiate that inner voice with his own voice - so he attributed it to an outside force or "Gods". Only once our bicameral minds split were we able to make the distinction between our inner voice and our concious selves...

Frontal lobes would also be neccesary for all speculative thought. By your logic, science, mathematics, representational art, astronomy and navigation would all be created out of fear.

Makes sense.
I've always thought that the human desire to continue, even after death, is a natural projection of a basic animal drive to survive.
It makes sense...

Like all theories I would have to look at the evidence on which it was based but on the face of it it sounds plausible.

Show me a single peer-reviewed journal article that, in any way, contradicts evolution and supports religion.

None exists.

All science invariably supports evolution.

that very well could be the case but it very well could be wrong as ana agnostic i would have to look at everything to make a decision but it does sound plausible
