I am afraid not.
Maybe it was that way before the information explosion on Planet Earth. Usually a person has already made up their minds before any one has had a chance to reason with them.( I may be wrong, but that is what I think.)
Mostly, these days, Religious Empires are built by propagation not by conversion.
That is why the Pope will not permit birth control. He knows that the only way his empire can maintain itself and grow is by large families adding their children to the Catholic membership.
Of course, their are exceptions: Some teenagers rebel against their parents by joining a religion, or denomination, or non-religion different than their parents. (But recent surveys and studies indicate that that is not a typical as most people had thought. Mostly, parents tend to worry that will happen, but studies indicate it happens less than 10% of the time, and it is usually to Atheism or agnosticism, not to another religion.)
If I had to say true or false to your question, I would say false- with very few exceptions
Added: I see two people have given me thumbs down. I meant not disrespect to anyone. I was just giving my honest opinion. Was it what I said about the Pope? That comment was reality not rhetoric. It was a business reality. "You either grow or you perish"

Most people are answering by personal opinion. I am going to answer by the Bible. It clearly states that "You will know the truth and the TRUTH will set you free. "
How can someone come to know the truth if no one tells it to them?
I know that I attended several different churches and studied several different religions before I found ONE that actually USES the BIBLE to tell the TRUTH. One that actually OPENS up the Bible and uses scriptues, and texts to teach from the Bible the teachings, prophecies and truths that are found IN it. Most people have been taught from childhood that they are to believe what they are told at the church they grew up in is the one and only way to go. But I found in my search for God that many of the churches and religions out there, that they don't KNOW god. Many of them only focus on JESUS, and don't even give credance to his father, who is by far more important. Not belittling what Jesus did for mankind, don't get me wrong! I love and admire and appreciate him for his grand sacrifice.
I also found that many of the religions I studied perpetuated falsehoods that had seeped into christianity over the centuries since the death of the Apostles. Things like pagan celebrations, practicies and false teachings have crept into the churches of today and corrupted the true teachings that Christ had left. Titus 1:2 brings that God cannot lie and thus if ANY falsehood or false teaching is found in a religion, it shows that this is not a true CHRISTIAN religion. Acts 17:11 "The Boreans were noble minded, because they were examining the scriptures DAILY to see if these things were so". We have to do this with OUR faith, examine it DAILY.
HOW are we going to know if we are doing something right or wrong if we don't ask?
WE HAVE TO ASK OURSELVES IF WE HAVE THE TRUTH. And sometimes this might mean opening our MIINDS ( not so much your BRAIN falls out! ) and listening when someone offers further insight into the Bible and its teachings.

It depends on the person you're talking to, and the person who's doing the talking. If the person has had strong faith in their own religion for their whole life, it would be extremely hard to change their beliefs, and you would have to do more than simply talk to them. On the other hand, if somebody was never a religious person, but just followed what they parents taught them because they had to, a good talk might be able to change their religion.

Nope. Can you imagine if every Tom, Dick, and Jane came to your door telling you how their religion is better than the one you practice? You'd probably be at least 20 different faiths in your lifetime! I'm a born again Christian (Lutheran), and the reason I came upon that faith was by reading many books about Martin Luther, and the foundation for his reasoning against what the Catholics were doing (selling indulgences, purgatory, etc.). I'm very comfortable with my faith and will most likely never change my religion.

Your 'Rome' must be in a satellite orbit around Jupiter. If a person's belief could be changed by you arguing the beliefs and teachings of a godless society, then that person probably never had an anchored faith in God. Once I tasted chocolate, I could not be persuaded that it was strawberry, no matter what you show me.

FALSE - and if I could make those letters bigger, I would. Changing religions isn't like buying Amway or Mary Kay.....I don't want a salesperson convincing me of what I should believe on my own. The sales pitch only turns me off more!!!! Like a used car lot! Not for me. I am an adult, who researched my beliefs, and others....and then followed my own heart and soul to practice what I do.

True, it seriously depends on how strongly the person believes in their religious views.
In my opinion, for someone to convert you have to...
1. Disprove their beliefs (hard to do, but doesn't necessarily make your beliefs true)
2. Prove your beliefs to be true (idiots will usually try this and will use useless circular logic)
3. Scare or force them into changing beliefs (Christians during the Inquisition, what many Muslims are doing now, "Convert or burn in hell!" or "Convert or we'll kill you!", etc.)
The best way to change someones beliefs is to SHOW them what you believe in is true. Avoid circular logic (ie. they ask "How do you know your god exists?", then you answer" Because it says so in the Bible"... not convincing logic to intelligent people)
Hope this helps some.
