Yuck acid reflux is icky. My husband had it but it's all better now. Some of the things to stay away from, chocolate, coffee, tomatoes, any acidic food such as oranges, grapefruit...etc. Nothing spicy and one of the most important things to do is. After eating do not do anything too strenuous like bending or running. DO NOT lie down after eating, you need to sit up or walk around. Do not lie down for at least 2-3 hrs after eating. If you do, what happens is the flap on top of your stomach stays open and the acid comes back out... it's still trying to digest so by laying down after eating it just releases the acid back out as well as weaken the little muscle on top of the stomach.

Try so Prilosec over the counter, Zantac, sometimes a prescription may be needed while you do all the other changes.

If you are overweight, sometimes even losing weight helps as well. My husband has lost over 40 pounds and feels great now.

Hope this helps

Try to avoid foods that are too spicy, and don't lie down after eating. It can take a couple or three hours for a meal to pass from your stomach, so that's how long you should avoid lying down for.

If you carry too much weight, you should lose it.

Smoking and drinking too much caffeine or alcohol tends to irritate acid reflux.

Sleeping with your head and shoulders raised can prevent reflux at night, and help stop your oesophagus burning. Use four or five pillows to form a 'ramp' to the top of the bed.

Eat smaller meals, and don't eat late at night.

Stress will also add to your symptoms - try to keep stress levels to a minimum.

Good luck with it!

Start buying/using Prilosec OTC (over the counter). You can pick it up without a prescription at any local drug store or grocery store.

My friend suffers from Acid Reflux real bad too. He used to have an expensive perscription for Prevacid, but says the Prilosec works just as well.

NOTE: It may take up to 24 hours from your first dose for the medication to start working.

Try taking Prilosec OTC, Malox, tums. Sometimes Acid Refulx is severe enough and people have to be put on Nexium which is just like Prilosec that is prescribed by a doctor. Avoid high fat/fried foods as well as spicy foods.

I have suffered from this for ages.

you have to work out which food/drink does it and then avoid them, or take it easy with them. I always carry Gaviscon around with me (even in the car's First Aid Kit).
The best thing about Gaviscon is that it only affects the acid, some remedies also affect your digestive system.

yes, avoid eating food right before you goto bed. When you lie down to goto bed acid can travel back up your esophagus. Also, avoid eating alot of spicy and acidic foods, which can cause your stomach to become very acidic and cause reflex. In short, just try not to eat to many acidic foods or drinks, like alot of orange juice, etc.

Go to your GP and get a prescription for Zoton or something like that, I did and it's stopped it from recurring.
