There is crime there but it is no different then anywhere else. Don't make yourself a target. I go to New Orleans all off the time and nothing has ever happened. If you want to eat drink and be merry this is the place to go.

Don't go alone and know what's on a block before you drive down it. Crime IS bad, just ask Ray. If you go when there is an event, the city government will make more cops come out and it will be somewhat safer.

it is definitely safe to come here. i dont remember the crime ever being really low but its not crazy bad like youre going to get robbed walking down the street in the middle of the day or anything. most of the crimes have some cause or reason behind them (drugs, money...) theyre not usually against random people, just like all other cities.youll be fine!
come have fun, eat, listen to local music, be safe

Crime has always and will always be bad in New Orleans. It just became more publized lately. You are ok as long as you stay in the tourist areas.

well why would be more dangerous to go to New Orleans than to any other city?!..I went to Vancouver couple of weeks a go and beleive me...I was constantly in fear for my belongings....New Orleans on the other hand is very friendly town, very mediteranian kind of feel because of the water surrounding it, haven for musicians and defenetly paradise for partieres....just come and see and enjoy...

I imagine NOLA is a safer place today after relocating scores of their criminals to our communities throughout the country. Just dont look from out of town and dont bring any valuables. Even their police force has a bad reputation...

you would be in basic terms nice! The French Quarter is amazingly touristy and there are no longer crime issues. in basic terms stay out of the slummy neighborhoods and you're turning out to be a tremendous time with out concerns!

That's what I heared too even before Katrina but one just can't keep getting scared about these things. Go and enjoy yourself. It's such a beautiful quaint city. The people are so warm and friendly. You won't regret it. Give NOLA a big hugs for me.

It is safe. As safe as any other city in America. Stay in the tourist areas, and be sure you know where you are going. Practice common sense...watch your purse/wallet, don't walk alone, etc.
