How do you get them to tell you the truth? Especially if they have a habit of not always being honest?

Say this like you mean it, [act hurt]

I know what you lied about, you can't hide it anymore. I'll give you once chance to tell me the truth, or I'll never trust you ever again.

Be stern or you'll crumble. They'll deny it at first. If they do.

Say how can you sit there like that? I want the truth and I want to hear from you now.

This well make them sweat and tell the truth or get extremely and overtly defensive. If they get angry you know there hiding something.

If this is a habit then you need not stick around. Even when he/she may tell the truth how will you know? The best thing to do is not be involved with that person unless you like being lied too.

You can't make anyone tell the truth, but you can wise up and stop trusting this person and distance yourself from them. Someone who feels they have to lie to other people, especially friends, is insecure and may have some serious character problems. You really don't want friends like this, because one important attribute of friendship is trust.

Be direct and ask them a very specific question and if you get an answer that you know is a lie, tell them that you want the truth and that you suspect that they are lying. Beyond that there is nothing that you can do except having your proof in your hands and confronting them again.

Why are you wasting your time with such people? Trust your intuition...your gut feeling. It is usually correct. Honesty and truth make life a lot easier. You don't have to remember the story you made up. There are lots of wonderful people in this world. Find them!

I recently got out of a relationship with a liar. Till this day, he will never admit he lies and has gotten caught in many lies. Please don't expect him to fess up. It's not happening. End the relationship now. If you stay in it, you'll know all of these negative things about him and when you tell him about them he will have had enough time to twist the stories around. Also, compulsive liars usually believe their own lies.

it is true that the eyes are the mirror to one's soul...

I always look at then in the eye and if there is something fishy, they are not telling the truth...

But, I try to talk to them, asking if they have done this or that and they are answering me clearly...and then I just leave it like that...

it's really hard to squeeze those kinda people if you ask me

Happy Holidays

Are we dating the same guy???

I've come to the point of following my gut instinct and taking what they say with a grain of salt.

Just involve yourself with other activities, see him as little as possible, and be open to meet new people.

but it is really pissing me off that your lieing to me!
and when you can come to honesty with me then give me a call right now i don't need someone who can't be trusted in my life!

I have been in the same situation with someone for over four years and trying to figure this same question out. They don't stop. They learn to do it better cause we teach them. Get out while you can. Seriously! It's emotionally draining. '-)
