I've had numerous body piercings.

Yes, redness is normal. Like someone else said, you just put a hole in your body. Not only that, but your body thinks it's a foreign object, like a splinter, and probably wants to get rid of it.

The best website for body piercings is www.tribalectic.com. I highly suggest you go there and look at the aftercare section. I've never heard of h2ocean, but i'm guessing it's not really recommended for piercing aftercare..... Also, there are forums there for questions and answers.

Also, it takes a navel somewhere around 6 months to a year to heal up completely. Its the middle of your body that has a lot of wear and tear on it. You are constantly bending and moving and your clothes will bump it and just everything. One week is brand new--- have patience.

You will know it is infected if it is hot and the fluids coming out of it are yellowish/greenish. If that happens, go to a doctor for antibiotics and don't take the piercing out- it may trap the infection in your body.

Good luck and let me stress the importance of that website. It's the best. Really. Go there. Now. www.tribalectic.com.

Saw an article on TV about this subject. Your reaction could be indicitive of an infection or allergic reaction to the foreign body you have inserted in your naval. But if it is just a miner amount of red and it is not feverish, it may just take a little longer for it to heal. I wouldn't stress out too much if it is just red and not feverish. Also, if the red area is confined to only around the piercing and doesn't get any larger, you probably have nothing to worry about.

I dont have a belly button piercing, but I have my nose pierced and it was irritated on and off for 4 or 5 months before I got to a point where it very rarely gets irritated. I would continue what you are doing and try not to touch and play with it too much. Not playing with my nose ring, and using Clean and Clear face wash is what helped me the most.

Well, being red around the piercing is normal. I mean....you put a hole in your body---and a very sensitive area of your body. If it's also swollen for more than a week, oozing, hot to the touch and/or the redness gets worse, then it's infected.

I had body piercings when I was younger, but they are all gone now. So unattractive. They really are.

I'm a nurse. Yes this is normal. You will experience some swelling and redness around the area. Keep using the same products unless you feel that it's irritating it. I wouldn't worry unless you develop a rash or something like that, but for now you are fine. Use warm/hot cloths to ease to discomfort. Ibuprofen reduces swelling also, take as directed.
