The "FEELING" of "love at first sight" is certainly real enough. Millions of people have reported feeling it.
There are several ways you can interpret the experience.
You can take the biological/evolutionary approach and say that over millions and millions of years, human animals have developed attraction to certain qualities in potential mates, and that when you meet someone who possesses many of those qualities your DNA takes over and releases certain chemicals in your brain that result in your feeling "in love" with that person. This biological attraction can certain happen at "first sight".
Another approach you might take could be the "soul" approach. Many people believe that our souls visit the earth over and over experiencing many different lives. The people who believe this would suggest that when you experience "love at first sight" what is really happening is that your soul is "recognizing" a soul in the other person that it has loved in another life time.
I personally tend to lean toward the biological answer but the soul answer certainly is a bit more romantic.
Whatever the real answer is, millions of people believe they share in your experience of love at first sight so there MUST be something to it.
Best of luck

I believe in attraction at first sight. I think love is something that happens over time after you really get to know the other person and develop those feelings of attachment and romantic love...

No. Lust at first sight - yes. Attraction at first sight - yes. Love - No.
Love takes time to build. It doesn't "just happen." It's a combination of trust, respect, sharing, and a whole host of other qualities that are individual to the couple involved. It doesn't just happen in one or two meetings.

there is an immediate attraction that feels like "love", but it's chemical at that time and will fizzle. Wait around and see what happens after the hormones dissipate before you think it's love.
