You can't, they won't listen and if you drink also they will turn it around and tell you to quit. A person that drinks will not admit to having a drinking problem, because they will say they only have a drink or two. We kept after my sister about her drinking and one day she actually admitted to her self that she drank too much and drank to get drunk. Good thing she realized on her own and quit. I think the doctor must of told her some bad news, she not telling, but its good to have her sober.

My roommate has a drinking problem....you really can't help someone, unless they want to change themselves. I have tried talking to her and she continues to have a drinking problem. I think it is really up to the person if they want to stop because even words of advice, they will still do it behind your back.

You can tell them in a business tone of voice with all emotion aside. Then from there, wait patiently for them to stop. You can only tell them but ultimately it is up to them to stop. If they agree to cut down but don't know how you can try to help them. Perhaps if your friend calculated how much money is spent on alchol and instead uses it for another activity.

they probably already know they have a problem but are unwilling or can't stop. sit them down and tell them how its affecting you and the family not just them and offer to support them through quitting. there are a lot of ways that doctors can help too so don't hesitate to contact yours for help. it seems to me there is a shot available that is very effective in helping. the problem is the alcoholic has to really want to stop.

Be really careful though. If they've been drinking for a long time you can get very sick while detoxing.

The bad thing is: It doesn't matter how you say it if they are not willing to listen.
