My dad bought a greenish-blue colored bird, and he says, according to its old owner, that it's a parrot. I think it's a little too small to be a parrot, but I don't know much about birds or animals anyway.

here's a picture:

Can anyone tell me specifically what kind of bird/parrot I have?

Hi, Looking at the picture it is most deffinatly a quaker parrot, Parrots need lots of attention or they pluck by looks of it your parrot is at the plucking stage as the chest feathers are missing,

U Need to supply parrot toys for your new bird, you can also try giving him the tube from toilet rolls as he will destroy thous too,

They need a decent size cage with perches too, also provide fresh fruit and veg, or a parrot can get ill just from eating bird seed.

Also give him a cuttle fish which provides calcium,

If u take good care of him and give him a nice diet and plenty of toys and play his feathers will start to grow back.

Fruit and veg should be provided along with water and his normal seed or pellets all day, the fruit should be cut up in small chunks big enough for him to hold.

Here is a short list of some fruits, veggies, and other foods to introduce gradually: broccoli, spinach, kale, chard, peas, string beans, corn, carrots, yams, sweet potatoes, squash, peppers, tomatos, cellery, hard-boiled or scrambled eggs (with no seasoning), apples, pears, bananas, grapes, mangos, papayas, cherries, apricots, kiwi, melons, pineapple, pasta (in small quantities), nuts (unsalted only), and peanuts (should be unsalted but not raw in the shells, since the shells may contain a fungus toxic to parrots).

Avoid feeding your parrot chocolate, apple seeds, avarcardo, onions, mushrooms, Tomato Leaves, anything with salt in, rhubarb, cabbage, lemons, to name a few,

Good luck with your new parrot!

You have a Quaker parrot. He looks like he might be a feather plucker. So I might suggest that you might feed him a good diet of parrot seed mix and Zupreem pellets. Fresh foods and veggies. ( You might want to get a bottle of Nekton Bio) It is a feather vitamin and sprinkle a little on his fresh fruits. It will take about 6 months to really work. That is how long it takes a feather to grow.

Good luck with your new member of your household!

That's a Quaker Parrot, sometimes called Quaker Parakeet. They can be fun pets, they sort of growl instead of chirp, I had one once named Sammy-he was great little bird.

It is a Quaker Parrot. I have one myself. They are very sweet birds. They also can have a remarkable talking ability. In fact alot of them start talking early.

It sounds like it may be a lovebird. It could also be a Conure Parrot. Birds are very very intelligent creatures and live quite a long time. Make friends with him and make he feel welcome.
