Veils
Question:
is it right for someone to say that since wearing hijab is not one of the five pillars of islam therefore it is really not that important?
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
This is a mistake, because hijaab is obligatory for women. Allaah is the One Who has commanded women to cover their adornments, including the face, bosom and all their adornments. This has been enjoined upon women as a protection against abuse and temptation. That is because women are the focus of desire, and the focus of what those who are tempted look at. So if a woman uncovers her beauty she will provoke desire, and people will become attracted to her and will follow her. This is the cause of many immoral actions such as adultery and the things that lead to it. So hijaab is obligatory for women and was enjoined upon them in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):
“…and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)…”
[al-Noor 24:31]
The veil (khimaar) is that which comes down from the head and covers the face, and the jilbaab is an outer garment with which a woman covers herself, leaving no part of her body showing.
And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“…And when you ask (his [the Prophet’s] wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen…”
[al-Ahzaab 33:53]
So it is a protection for women so that there will be no room for people to treat them as playthings.
Question:
Is wearing niqaab one of the conditions of Islamic dress for women?
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
Hijaab in Arabic means covering or concealing. Hijaab is the name of something that is used to cover. Everything that comes between two things is hijaab.
Hijaab means everything that is used to cover something and prevent anyone from reaching it, such as curtains, door keepers and garments, etc.....

Here is my story incontrast to what people say I wore my hijab(head-scarf) as my family disapproved and tried to convince me out of it..I wore because I believe in the teachings of Islam ...
I am an educated woman who has the right to wear or not wear what I want and nobody has the right to enforce their beliefs or disbeliefs on me..I believe in Allah(swt)
and his messenger and if you disagree with me then we can just agree to disagree...
You can't beleive in freedom and take away a womens right to choose away from her.

Yes that's necessary for a muslim girl to wear it, but in fact it's necessary also for the jews and christians girls.
We continue to take example on the Holy Mary, and the wive's prophets (in each representation of Mary in the churchs you can see that She's wearing it too)
The important is to let us chose for ourselves not to force us ;)

I think the woman should be allowed to interpret that for herself and not her society. It's so sad to see women forced to hide and to be treated as they are.
Christian women are also to have their heads covered but thankfully it's of the heart and in the spirit vs letter of the law. My husband is my head and Christ is his. Single women have Christ as their head and covering.

It's great as long as it's really her choice. Women shouldn't be sex objects, so covering the body can certainly be freeing. On the other hand, if it's not your choice, it is clearly oppressive.

My saying is that I'm all covered up...
not necisserily my face (since I'm in the US), but yeah... I'm covered from head to toe.
I'm not forced to do so, it's my choice, and I'm very happy with it.
Does that help?
Peace.
