I have ADHD and I have found that it is so much easier for me to communicate with others if I write the information down or if I am on the internet rather than try to verbally communicate with someone. I was wondering if I am the only one who does this or if there are others and how do you deal with this? Are there treatments that help with this??

It might be because you are able to focus your attention while writing. You are focussing your thoughts and words into phrases and sentences. I think in conversation the speed at which your brain creates thoughts must create problems - it's harder to focus and stay on track.

Could you try a combination of writing and speaking for a while, until you are able to train your mind to think in the same structured way you do when you're writing, when you're speaking?

I am better at writing down what I need to say then actually speaking it. I have been conditioned to be this way. For me it is when I am in a relationship. I have something to say I get interupted and then I forget the whole point that I am trying to make, or I am so frustrated with the person, I shut down.

I try my best to verbally make my point. If I can't for whatever reason then I just write it down. I figure as long as I am communicating in some form it is much better than shutting down.

I am not like this with other people, just the ones I date. I guess I have a problem with communicating.

With you I am wondering if it's easier to write down the info, because you have more time to think it through instead of a spur of the moment thought. I am betting with practice you would get better at communicating verbally.

As far as treatments I am not sure expect for practice, practice, practice. You could stress to your doctor what is going on. Perhaps they can turn you towards the right direction.

Probably this will disapear after some period and meanwhile it is good to have friends that understand you and have optimistic character .
By the way , your style and grammar are better than these of many other's writing questions on YA./of mine also.

i'm better at typing/ im'ing than talking. i don't talk a hole lot unless i'm really comfortable with the people around me. are you shy or do you think you have a communication (speech?!) problem? hm, 1000 words running through your mind but not knowing what to say? take it one step at a time... you don't have to give a speech just a reply... make it easy on yourself.... =)
