One of the best ways to teach children is to show them...show her what it looks like when you eat with your mouth open so she gets an idea of why you keep asking her to close it. Try talking with her about it while you are not eating and creating a code word that you can use to point out to her that shes doing it because chances are that she doesnt even realize that she is, besides a lot of kids like "code words" it makes it like a game.
Also remember to point out when she's eating with her mouth closed.

She's just trying to get your attention and push your buttons :) This issue wouldn't been here if she was taught not to do it in her early years -first solid food- of eating. But here's an idea. Since she's still in her imagination era, you could pinch in a bit of "fake myth" in such as, "if you eat with your mouth open or you keep on making those noises, you're gonna have little trolls coming out from under your bed, and they're gonna force open your mouth and see if there's left over there. And if you wake up before they're done, they're gonna sew your lips together so you'll never open it again.." or so on hehehe.
My niece did the same thing. Told her that lie, and from that moment she's been a real silence eater and a well-mannered little lady on the dinner table :)
Good luck. If no sucess, spend more time with her and don't ever brand her as a bad girl for doing such thing :) she's just a kid :)

Several ways to this, some may seem extreme.
1) YOU don't talk while eating. YOU keep your mouth closed while eating.
2) Give your daughter a little portion of food at a time, and encourage her that if she'll be the good little princess that you know she is and chew with her mouth closed, then her Father Knight will congratulate her with a little bit more.
3) Ol' skool method: every time she does it, pop her!
Remember: don't raise your voice at her, just calmly tell her, "Sweetie, I've tried to teach you not to chew with your mouth open but you continue to do it; you've left me no choice in the matter but to show you how disappointed I am with you. I wish you wouldn't do that because Daddy doesn't like popping his Little Princess...but you've left me no choice. Only you can stop Daddy from doing this and that's if you'll stop chewing with your mouth open."

Start telling her before she begins to eat and that way maybe she will get into the habit of keeping her mouth closed when eating. She probably thinks it's funny at that age, but your right in trying to get her manners under control now. Also, you might try embarrassing her in front of some of her friends or family members. That might work.

Tell her that if she can't eat properly she can leave the table and make her. It may take several times but she will learn. Just don't give in. Don't make her starve though. A piece of bread and some water or milk should keep her from going hungery and keep CPS from having too many problems.

I kept a wooden spoon on the table when we were eating. Any exhibition of poor manners and BANG went the spoon on the table! I also used a reward system: each day without a bang got a gold star on the calendar. When he got 7 stars he got a surprise. Sometimes it was a GIJoe, sometimes it was a later bedtime, sometimes it was just wrestling with me in the living room. To this day, my son (24) has excellent table manners and can go to the finest restaurants and conduct himself accordingly.

Where did she pick up the habit of eating her food like this? don't make food an issue with her. But politely explain that it not good table manners to eat like this. If that doesn't work send her to a Swiss finishing school lol

Use subtle reminders such as finger on lips. Make sure she can breathe with her mouth closed and eating. Tell her you know its a bad habit and that you are there to help her by reminding her. When you see her eating with her mouth closed, be certain to let her know you appreciate her efforts.

sound like she is trying to irritate you the next time this happens and it"s something she really likes, and you ask her to stop and she keeps eating that way, make her leave the table,be firm don't let her come back until she is ready to eat like a normal kid, that's just bad manners, she will get tired of not being able to eat, start with snack time ,something she really like and is looking forward to .Good Luck

It just takes time kiddo, you are doing the right thing as long as you don't constantly yell at her. Just continue to gently remind her that no one wants to see the food inside her mouth as she chews, she will get it after a while. Good Job "Mom" and good luck
