You'll have to go onto a "housetraining" program and expect to keep on cleaning up for a while until she learns appropriate potty behavior.

1) I would recommend that you don't leave her locked up in her crate - Set up an area that consists of her crate without a door, newspapers (or just the vinyl floor or similar easy to clearn flooring), water and enclose her in an exercise pen. So provide her with a little more room so that she has a potty area, a sleeping area, and area to walk around.

2) if you are gone for long hours 6hrs+ then I would suggest that you hire a petsitter or responsible neighbor to check in on her and take her out for potty breaks

3) when you are home - you need to have a program in place

Rule out illnesses or diseases

Puppies bought in Pet Stores and/or puppymill puppies often have hygiene problems and aren't very healthy. They have to learn potty behaviors.

It will require patience, consistency and time.

Most importantly - don't lock her into her crate until she is "housebroken".

This is part of the process of crate training as well as house training. I have had my dog two months (6 months old now) and she still creates pee/poop messes that I have to clean up. I don't mind it because she's doing what she suppose to (go on the paper), but it's just apart of having a dog. My other dog she's 13 years old and when her schedule gets messed up she pees/poops on the floor I don't get mad @ her, she's house trained but it happens.

Dogs do not normally mess where they have to sleep. The crate may be too big. Try a smaller one and see if it helps.

People, I realize that this is a young person (I'm guessing a teen) but it is a prime example of why dogs should not be given as Christmas presents. Read all the questions that she has asked today. And it's only DAY ONE with her new puppy!

Im guessing the dog was from a pet store and not a responsible breeder. Unfortuantly pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills who raise their pups is nasty conditions so they are used to wallowing in there own filth

Don't leave her in the crate so long.

When you take your dog out side and he/she goes to the bathroom say good job and tell her/him how good that is.
