No these are not the same.

The reason why only left hand thumb impression is taken in banks(in case of illiterate clients) is smiply because the the lines on the left hand thumb are more clear, since most of the people are right handed, it is their right hand that does most of the job and the lines on right hand may not be that clear

They May be similar but they are different. Usually your thumb has a swirl print. And they swirl in opposite directions but mine are both completely different. No two prints are alike.
