In the 3rd world as they prey on the poor and desperate -a common missionary tactic they come with food and tell them they will only give them food if they accept Christianity- so with a choice between death and christianity they choose the latter
In the past Christians spread their faith by killing anyone who wouldnt become Christian- see europe, north america, south amercia or by enslaving them (black people in the US)- now they use these tactics
I think calling them missionaries is wrong: they should be called vultures

Because I don't know why do they want to convert the whole world to Christianity. They know it well that Christianity has no spiritual value like Hinduism or Buddhism even Jainism. All they talk about is heaven, hell, judgement of God, judgement day, coming to Christ. If Christ was so powerful then why didn't he kill Romans? Who can kill God? Their only hope is conversions. And there is a very noticeable point here which no one notices and it is to westernize. Because wherever Christianity will go western values will also follow. Who do you think will oppose America the most, Muslims in Thailand or Christians in China? The answer is obvious. Now don't talk about French protests to American invasion of Iraq. It was different matter altogether. It was about nationalistic ego. That's why China doesn't allow these missionaries, because they know well that the day these people are allowed to preach freely, China will no more ba a competitor to the west and it may eventually collapse.

Missionaries cannot convert anyone. They are called to caarry the news of salvation to the "uttermost parts of the earth." The third wolr needs to be included and the "tech advanced" countries need to be included. The "tech advanced" countries for the most part, already have many means to hear-- the Bible in their own language to mention one. So, it might seem that the third world countries are getting more attentiona nd therefore more measurable response.

From what I see, success and failure doesn't really depend on whether the country is advanced. My girlfriend is a missionary.... she has missioned in Australia and China (advanced) as well as Papau New Guinea and Africa (3rd world) and has been just as successful in each area though Christianity has to be kept pretty much secret in China, though she was still as successful as anywhere else. And no, neither she nor the other missionaries bullied their way in.

In the third world Christianity is a growth industry while congregations are shrinking in the west. The trend in the west is towards secularisation so missionaries have an impossible task to attract more gullible saps to their creed.

The easiest people to convert are people that have traditional/pagan beliefs. Muslims are the hardest to convert unless they have had no real education in Islam, then they are easier.

I'd say they are more motivated to convert people when there's a prize for meeting their goals.
You know, like a toaster oven.
