"Family room" implies a place for families to gather, including kids and pets. So you need to choose fabrics and colors that are "family friendly" and will hold up well.
Since you have a wood-burning firestove, I'd keep the whole tone
warm and cozy. Creams, tans, and deep reds would be a good combination. Go for a warm, creamy beige for the walls, a darker color in the tan/brown family for the upholstered or leather
pieces, and deep reds for your accent colors. I don't know what look you are going for, but the Tuscany prints are done in beautiful shades of golds, tans, greens, rusts, and reds. This would be a nice look. Add a bevy of throw pillows in warm colors and a chenille throw over the arm of the couch. Plants, live or silk, add a touch of nature. Be sure to include lots of books and handsomely framed family photos.
To find something you absolutely love, look through magazines and decorating books and try to pinpoint what appeals to you. Maybe you like blues, or light colors in the ivory tones. Could be green is the color for you, and it is a wonderful color to work with. Moss green is a "neutral" and could complement golds, beiges, rusts, certain shades of red, even plum. The room should reflect your tastes and needs.
Lucky you - a new room to decorate!

hi, we are able to be portray our front room, dinning room and kitchen the tip of July. I even have been finding over paint hues for a month now. i like the earth tones they seem to heat up a room. Our livimg room furnishings is the beige, rust hues, so we are going with the lighter sage color for the front room partitions. i think of your hearth will certainly stand out painted "Smokey Hazlnut" and the partitions "sundown Curtains" the two a type of hues are offered at Lowes. you additionally can look them up on line, they'd definitely look stable consisting of your hues on your furnishings. and could heat up the entire room. As for the mantle, you need to head away it white, or paint it a beige, gentle black or the smokey hazlnut. i definitely would decide on gentle black or beige if I did decide on the smoky hazlnut for the hearth. stable success. Have a great summer season & 4th of July. DJ

green is a relaxing color
red is a high energy color
tan is neutral
i would do 60% tan, 30% green, and 10% red or burgundy (opposite on the color wheel to make the color 'pop')
or
60% green, 30% tan, and 10% red/burgundy
or you could bag the red/burgundy idea and use blue or dark green.
