Last night we were laying down watching TV and all of a sudden we heard our dog whine and we figured he was whining because we weren't pay much attention to him but he kept on for about 10 seconds straight. I called for him and he was limping. So I got him down from the bed and made him walk and his back leg was sort of "dead" and he didn't move it...just dragged it but didnt' whine or acted as if it hurt when we inspected it. He kept on playing and within 5 minutes he was back to walking normal. I am thinking maybe it was a cramp? Is that possible? I will tell the vet on his next check up but is it something maybe I should take more seriously? He's a 4 lbs, 9 month old- Chihuahua Mix.

KJ. haha. Yes they have muscles..I know that. I guess what I'm asking is...I guess they get leg cramps too? That's kind of weird to think about...but you're right...they have muscles and muscles cramp wether it be animals or humans. Hmm..

Our dog use to get cramps in her legs and the vet told us to give her a baby asprin. That eased the pain, after she had the cast off from breaking her leg. He said if its safe for a baby it won't hurt a dog.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7XB

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I would definitely go into the vet sooner rather than later. This could be a start of a spinal disease. However, it is possible for dogs to get muscle cramps. But if it happens again, definitely go to the vet ASAP.

Yea they can I have a year old fox terrier who has skinny legs like the chihuaha and when He was younger he would cry when I would pick him up or just when he was walking so I thought there was something wrong with his legs & I ended up taking him to the vet and they said it was just growing pains. and sure enough it went on for about 2-3 more weeks and never had problems agian.

Do dogs have muscles? Think about it...

If it starts happening often, worry.

ADDED...Sorry Laurel, just a little friendly sarcasm....
