If you have no idea how to raise a dog or look after it i suggest you give it someone who can like a shelter or rehoming centre.

Go to the "search for questions" box above and type in "training a JRT" or training a Jack Russell Terrier".
I have a JRT mix and he's a handful. I really hope you were prepared for a dog. Please be patient and don't give up on your puppy. It's going to be a bumpy road ahead. JRT's are high energy and need A LOT of physical and mental stimulation.
I would first suggest crate training, then a routine for feeding time and going outside. Puppy obedience is not a bad idea for this little thing either. Esapecially if you have children or other pets. Jacks are notorious for tormenting kitties and there have been incidents where a JRT has killed another pet. Please read up on the breed at www.dogbreedinfo.com.
Remember, if you don't keep your Jack busy and entertained, it will find a way to entertain itself and you won't appreciate it...
Good luck!

Hi! I have a Jack Russell puppy who is 10 months old - his name is Daxter. They are definetely a hyper breed, but very smart. The best advice I can give is to discipline while the puppy is still young. Since they are so smart they will learn quickly and the skills you teach them now will help them to be well behaved when they are older.
Also, make sure you give the puppy lots of excercise, Jack Russell's are VERY energetic and need to get out their energy. I have a large backyard where I let Daxter run around whenever possible - he usually comes back in and plops on my lap.
Overall, they are a misunderstood breed. They are very cuddly and lovey and not aggressive as long as you give them the attention and training that they need.
I could not ask for a better pet!!!!

I have a female Jack Russel and I can tell you they are wonderful dogs. I can tell you that they are very smart and extremely loving and mostly a "one person dog". Provide your pup with plenty of toys, but make sure they don't have small parts that can be pulled off and swallowed. Jacks thrive on lots of praise! An exited "Good dog!" goes a long way with them. They can develop habits (whether good or bad) rather quickly so nip the bad ones in the bud. Take him out to potty after he eats and just after he wakes up from a nap.
I hope I have been of some help to you. Enjoy...they are fun little dogs.

And now they come...
Puppies for Christmas...I give a major thumbs-down.
JRT's are a handful to say the least. I have a Parson Russell Terrier, different variety, wirehaired and stouter noses.
He is a 6 year old USDAA National Agility Champ and runs runs runs all around. He is a never-ending bucket of energy. I swear he drinks coffee when I am not around...TOTALLY KIDDING FOLKS!!
You need to start training him yesterday. Get my point? He needs to know you are the boss. They have short attention spans, so bits of training all day long instead of long sessions are best for these pups. Also, it may seem mediocre, but give him a short name for his call. My PRT is named Skipther in the ring, but I call him Skip. Short commands such as "Skip Sit!" are great. Also, crate training for these dogs is a must. I do not mean confine him all day long. It will drive him nuts.
Crate train him so he knows where is the bathroom and where is NOT. But if you must leave him during the day until he is perfectly housetrained, get him a puppy play pen with nothing around for him to chew. Leave him a puppy kong with peanut butter inside to gnaw on to pass the time.
People seriously underestimate these dogs. They are NOT necessarily the best family dogs. But they can be great single-person companions, especially if you want to get involved in a dog sport, such as agility or JRT go-to-ground events.

Jack Russell's are very smart dogs, you need to potty train the puppy by feeding him twice a day. Remove the dish from the floor after he is done .. have set times for eating .. and give him treats when he obeys. They will aim to please you. They are very hyper and will jump on everything. they love to snuggle and protect. Ask an expert for advise. I'm just repeating some of the things i was told...Good Luck Merry Christmas!

Get a excellent & informative 'For Dummies' book on Jack/Parson Russell Terriers - these dogs are a handful! Very active, busy, destructive, and not for most people unless they have a farm where they can run & catch vermin. So many end up in breed rescue for this reason.
I warn you now so you can decide what would be best for you & the dog while it is young & still more adoptable.

Just house train the pup--put his nose in the poop and say NO NO, and put him outdoors.
Get some stuff animals, doggie bones, and keep water for the pup at all times.
They like to sleep wid ya,
The best way to potty is after u feed em , take em outdoors and say pee pee and the pup will make it a habit of whinin at the door to get out.GOOD LUCK>
