that the older parents are when they give birth to children, the more likely their children are gonna have health problems, either physical or mental, well I have Asperger Syndrome, my dad was 41 & my mom was 39, only 6 months from being 40, when they gave birth to me, now my parents are almost 60, & I'm gonna be 19 in 2 weeks, how lame is that?, I've also always noticed why do hispanic & black people give birth to kids at a very early age?, like always in their 20's, most of the time before they are 25

I don't think that has anything to do with health problems. And, it's dangerous to generalize whole races.

Most medical issues are hereditary while others are not, however there are some who believe if you were able to trace your family medical history back for at least 8 generations you would find so many ailments you would not want to have children of your own.

You also have to factor into things just how advanced the medical field is today and take an honest look at the rumours/issues of past relations. Trust me on this I was told many false truths about my family and only found things out through genetic counselling while pregnat for my second child.

While an increase in age does factor in on certain things like Down's Syndrome and a few others it is not limited to those of us over 35 who decide to or discover we are expecting.

I'm near 40 and found out that I'm expecting in the spring. What I had been told by the medical profession was menopause was in fact being pregnant. So there you have it even doctors cannot always understand the mysteries of the human body. They try to explain it but what it honestly boils down to is that one diagnosis does not fit all.

I'm fortunate to not look my age, many people mistake my 20 year old daughter and I as sisters. I don't feel terrible having this baby at my age and see him as a gift from above as does his father and 3 older siblings.

As for the racial thing, it is more noticlable in a population that has been supressed or rather held back eccinomically for generations. It also depends on where you are looking at graphically.

I just came back from the Dominican where the average family has 6 children and the parents began in thier 20's. Perhaps it was just a localized thing, perhaps not.

Anyhow, have a Happy Birthday and enjoy your parents while you can. You never know what the future holds for them or yourself.

mid twenties is a womens peak for having children. and yes it can cause problems in children if you are older. I had a realitive who was about the age of your mom and she lost the baby due to heart problems..the baby didn't form the left ventricle on the heart which meant he wasnt getting enough blood pumped throughout his body he was able to live in the womb for the full term because he was being nourished there but once out of the womb he was unable to live on his own. unfortuanatly it was because she was older. You also have to take family history into account. Of course some women who are older have babies just fine. I would ask a OBGYN and get a professional opinon but this is what I have learned. As far as race is concerned you notice that the ages you mentioned were 20-25 peak times for women to have children. so race has nothing to do with it.

Older women have a slightly higher change of giving birth to a child with health issues but it can happen to anybody. As for having asperger syndrome, it means you are somewhere on the autisic spectrum..........but a very large proportion of the population demonstrate characteristics which put them on the autisitc spectrum. As for the age of your parents. They love you, that's the important part. Just because somebody is older doesn't mean they are not a sucessful parent.

Actually I have heard that yes the older you are the higher risk of defects but mostly that is the case with extremes like downs syndrome and stuff that affects the chromosomes. And it has to do with situation not race that they have children early,

I am in the same situation as you are. I have learned alot from them being of older generation, but it has also come with its negative points. They were brought up with quite a few myths;, that I have read about and it has been discovered that the truth behind it was different. So I felt embarrased to have believed in them when their beliefs were based on myths that they were brought up on. I have learned some good values from them though. It hasn't been all bad..Besides, there is not a thingggg wronggg with mmmeee...llol.....
