We're planning on going to Australia in June/July 2007 for three weeks. We're visiting family near Sydney but then want to travel probably up to Brisbane and then to Alice Springs. Does anybody know of any good, reliable companies to hire camper vans from, which aren't too expensive? Are there any companies to avoid? Any other tips, things to look out for etc? Any info is much appreciated!!

If you just want something quick and cheap, I'd suggest you go for rental returns, most companies don't advertise this service in Australia but the all do it,
Basically someone pays full price to drive a camper van from Brisbane to Sydney but when it gets there the hire company's need someone to dive it back, that's where you come in, they'll probably give you free fuel and charge you something like a dollar a day to hire the van, it's the best way if you just want to get to a destination quickly and cheaply, I travelled over 10,000 miles in OZ and it cost me nothing, the hire companies were only delighted for me to drop there camper vans back to them.....
