My mother-in-law thinks that I am trying to keep my daughter from her, which I am not I am a stay at home mom and she knows(my husband and I have told her many times) that she can come over to our house anytime she wants to. Last night she decided to go off on me about it and said that she would take me to court and get full custody of my daughter or at least have every weekend with her. Here is my question can she do that? She also has a record (1992-Battery(twice), 1992 Criminal Sex abuse(had sex with a 14yr olds) She was found guilty off all three charges. She used to be a daycare worker but after the criminal sex abuse charge she lost her license and can't work with kids at all anymore. So would the courts grant her custody or every weekend visitations? I don't like leaving my daughter alone with her.

I don't see any way the courts would ever allow her unsupervised visits with her past record. She can't go to court & get custody of your child just because she wants to even with a perfect record so don't worry. My guess is they would laugh her out of court!

Honey if that woman has sex abuse charges against her the judge will not let your child near her, would you want her alone with your child...She can't get custody of your child just because she feels you are keeping your daughter from her... There is nothing she can do.. You have every right to be concerned about leaving your child with her.. The Judge will think she was a nut case and yell at her good.. I'm sorry but your Mother in law sounds like a Basket Case..

She would never get custudy!! That is nuts. The ONLY way she could maybe get custody is if the court were to find you an unfit parent, and even still i beleive the child would go into foster care. and then on top of it she has many charges against her, there isnt any court that would award her custudy. try not to worry, shes full of it. and the way I see it you are being a great mom by not letting her be alone with her.

First of all she can never take your child away from you just on the grounds that she doesn't get to see her enough. You are smart not to leave your child alone with her. You have to remember Grand parents are just Icing on the cake. As long as your daughter has parents that love her unconditionally that's all that matters. If your mother is really sincere about wanting to see your child she will quit acting like one herself , clean up her act and come see you and your daughter. You could even set up special days to meet at McDonald's or the park while your daughter plays. She can spend time with her then, until she can prove her self fit otherwise.

You absolutely should NOT leave your daughter alone with her EVER!! You are 110% right on this one!! Stand your ground. There is NOTHING she can do, especially with that kind of criminal record. Guard your child with your life around someone like this...family or not, you can NEVER bee too careful and it's much better to err on the side of safety than to regret not having done so later!! Good luck!!

Tell her to take her meds. There's no judge that is going to grant her full custody or even unsupervised visitation with your child with a criminal history like that unless he's a perv too. I wouldn't leave my child with her alone neither. Freaking perv. I wouldnt even indulge in her phone conversations anymore; you married her son, not her. You dont owe her any explanations, if she wants to see her she better get hip to your program and how it's going to be. Good Luck!

First of all, she can't just have custody just because she wants it. She has to prove that you are an unfit mother. As far as the visitation, there have been cases of grandparents rights, but considering her history I doubt she'd have a case. It sounds to me like she's just trying to bully you. She's never going to mount a lawsuit against you. Tell her to buzz off.

She's a psycho. At least if she took you to court they would render a decision and she would have to go away and leave you alone. Unfortunately, people like her enjoy threatening but then they rarely follow through.
