Does a dog retain his sex drive even after he has been neutered? My daughter's small terrier mix has approached two spayed female dogs this past weekend and tried to mount each of them. They got the dog at an animal shelter about 4 months ago & were told he was neutered, & will have it checked out when they return home, but in the meantime, can someone explain? The dog is about 3 years-old & is very friendly and non-aggressive about everything else.

No the dog is not horny. It is trying to show dominance over the others. That's where the saying "Top Dog" came from. The top dog is the most dominant. Not sexual at all.

What you are seeing isn't "sex drive" it is a display of dominance. Peopel have the mistaken idea that when dogs, intact or neutered, mount other dogs that it is a sexual display...it is NOT. It is a display of dominance. The dog that does the mounting is trying to show that he/she is top dog over the others. This is a normal part of dog behavior. This dominance display is seen in many other animal species as well.

Breeding really changes dogs and I'm going to guess this boy mated before he was neutered. Once a male dog has bred a ***** he will never be the same. Even though he's neutered he will still act like he did before. It should get better over time but it hasn't been long enough for him to forget.

My 1st cat grew to become into like that, yet he is going for crammed animals. My canines grew to become into like that starting to be up besides. while they learn the habit and learn it quite is feels good, this is a lost reason.
