it sounds to me like a bad attempt at optimism and sick humor.

It sounds as if this guy Remy is/was really anal or borderline compulsive-obsessive!
O.K., so I polished every shoe in the house and did a buncha other really weird and totally unnecessary sorting, cleaning, organizing type stuff in my final weeks of pregnancy (the thinking being that I wouldn't have the time or energy to do any of it after the baby was born). But...
If you're going to have an operation and just might not make it, what do you care about what's in order and what isn't? Someone else will eventually take care of it all anyway.
Why not spend pre-op time doing something you really love?
On the other hand, maybe it's a good idea to burn those old love letters and ancient diaries, incriminating photos, questionable mementos.
And if you have something really special you want someone in particular to have, then you'd better make sure that's in order before you go under the knife.

Get your business and personal dealings in order because your life will be changed.
either for the good or bad would depend on the rest of the story.
MEBBE you will need a wheelchair. or not need one anymore.
OR that new arm they will attach will cause people to stare and your life as a politician is over.
OR if they cut on your genitalia you might... eww.
OR your new face may require you family to get to know you all over again.

It's interesting enough, I guess. Kind of odd, though. At least it's better than "Our Father which art in heaven, stay there, and we shall stay here on earth, which is sometimes so pretty." That's just one of the most boring things I've ever heard.
