My boyfriend and I have been dating for 7 months and we went to his mom's place for christmas dinner. She got me sterling silver earrings and a necklace with heart designs in them-very pretty! What should I write in a thankyou note to her, without sounding cheesy? I am also planning to put a picture of my boyfriend and I from Christmas in the card when I send it. Also, how do I end the note? Sincerly, Love,From, Best Regards??

Dear Mrs. XYZ,
I'd like to say "Thank You" for the wonderful gift you gave me. That was very thoughtful of you. It's absoltuly beautiful. It's comforting to know you're though of in special ways. Sincerely, your son's wild ride (well, maybe not that) :).

don't think a thank-you is cheesy at all, it's a lost art these days.

You've already got it covered i think. I was taught to say along lines of "thankyou for [insert gift]. Then something about why it was appreciated e.g. i didn't have a nice set of wine glasses; i was thinking of buying that cd; that's one of my favourite movies; the earrings will match well with a new dress i just bought, etc etc -- this lets the person know you appreciated the thought they put in cos you show you've thought of how you'll use the gift.

as for an ending it depends on how close you feel to her. If you're all tight and stuff then "love" otherwise stick to "yours sincerely"

so letter eg:
Dear [name],
Just a note to thank you for having me/us to dinner on [........].The meal was delicious [or something like house was beautifully decorated]. Thankyou for the earrings they are very pretty and i [have worn them already/will wear them with/etc].
thanks again
yours sincerely

be genuine. say how you really feel. that the earrings are pretty and you love the necklace. you can add that you've already worn it twice to event a and event b. or that they are your new favorites. tell her how happy you feel to be accepted by your boyfriend's family and how much it means to you (if that is true).
I think there is no harm in writing love, but if that feels uncomfortable, you can just sign your name without a saluation.
the trick is be real, be authentic, be genuine. from the heart.
if it's not true, don't say it. untrue things are what sounds cheesy.
good luck.

Dear Boyfriend's Mom,

Thank you for the beautiful jewelry. I will enjoy them very much. I've enclosed a picture of your son and me.

Fondly,
Me

Or something like that. Think KISS--Keep It Simple Stupid. You don't have to go on and on about how much you love them and how you'll wear them all the time and how she's such an awesome person. In fact, you don't even have to add that last line about enclosing the picture. Let her find it. It might be thanks enough.

Just call her in person to reiterate how cute you thought the gift was and schedule another visit with her. Mother's like to see their kids that is the best gift or thank you that we can get.

A thank you note to me seems like something you do whenever you get a gift and you do it because of protocol not because you really mean it.

So the call seems more genuine.

You've got the basis there already. Thank you for the (things), it was very kind of you. They are so pretty and I love wearing them.

Just put your name at the end if you are not sure.

Keep it simple. Something like: "Thank you so much for making me feel like part of trhe family at Christmas dinner! And I love the jewelry!" Hope you enjoy the picture! Thanks again, (Or See you again, soon...) ---

Let your heart lead! Thanks you notes are SO appreciated, it really doesn't matter too much what you say in them!
