I mean, is science contradicting everything God is? Can they ever be together?

There is this guy I am arguing with. I say no, and he is against my opinion. So now I need yours. :)

If you're just going to say random things, or in any way be totally useless, I suggest you stop wasting your time and not answer. I respect what you have to say, but if it isn't helpful, I'd rather not you say anything at all.

There are usually four different relationships between religion (often Christianity) and science according to Ian G. Barbour:
1. Conflict
2. Independence
3. Dialog
4. Integration
Different scholars and different conferences fall into these different categories depending on what their goals are. Not all of history has been in the Conflict category, and often science and religion can fit in the Dialog and Integration groups.

Stephen J. Gould proposes the concept of NOMA, which means science and religion are separate and don't even occupy the same territory in regard to answering questions.

The Dalai Lama proposes that science and religion can work together, especially when one topic doesn't have all the answers or even asks all the questions!

Many things need to be taken into consideration in the history of science and religion. Science as we know it today formed a lot in western Christian culture, and science was meant to be observations of the Christian God's creations. (I have to note that great advances grew elsewhere, but I want to illustrate the point that Christianity and Science were partners in the past. Science was once considered the Handmaiden of Theology in Christianity's past!) One must also take into consideration that what has long been considered "Classical Knowledge" stems from Pagan Rome. There wasn't much conflict, and most of the conflict today isn't in true religious and scientific circles; it's mostly continued by the media and people who don't quite know what they're talking about. The last Pope, for example, was okay with evolution, as are many priests in Italy. Non-Christian religions also have a different view of science and religion, and not all religions have Dogma that opposes scientific discovery and knowledge.

Virtually everything I have learned about God is found in the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is not a science book but when it touches on scientific things, it is accurate. The Bible does not contradict science.

To illustrate: science teaches that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old. The Bible does not contradict that. The creation account in Genesis allows for that age. Some creationists teach that the earth is 6,000 to 8,000 years old. But the Bible does not teach that.

Genesis 1:1 states quite simply: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. This description, which has no date, includes the universe in its entirety - all celestial bodies and planet earth. Beginning with verse 2, the account describes the preparation of earth for habitation. It describes creating things on the planet for life. Do we get the sense of this?

Not touching dead person (unclean) fear of germs and such,
4. Being holy, which also means to be clean, so hygiene was

gee not sure what part of science but there are several applications.

If you believe that God is the creator of the universe, then yes God and science are one. Think about it. We have the laws of science, Newtonian, Einstein's, the periodic table of the elements etc. If God created the universe, then these are HIS laws he used to create everything. It is only our imperfect knowledge that limits us from recognizing His hand in the scientific world.

The Source of all knowledge is one point, whether it be scientific or religious. True science and true religion agree. That they appear to disagree is either because scientists have yet to discover a certain hidden mystery or religionists are still clinging to superstitious dogma and doctrine.

Check out www.bahai.org for a religious perspective on the agreement of science and religion and check out the book "Einstein and Religion" for a scientific perspective on this subject.

Hope this helps you and your buddy come to a common understanding.

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form.

The big bang theory states that the universe began with a great explosion and is still expanding outward from the explosions source.

Mathematics (and the string theory) clearly point to the existence of a multidimensionsal universe.

If absolute proof of the existence or non-existence of a universal creator is to come about, it will come through the scientific method, not from religion.

God is God and Science is science. Science has limitations. God is infinity. Science has defined almost 100 billion light years of space and the contents of it is beyond imagination. God still exists beyond that ; beyond science can even think of reaching.

it is possible that science and the belief in God can work
i for one accept both , because i have seen enough evidence personally for me to do so
i dont find any problems in doing so .. infact the more i know about both , the more my belief in both strengthens
there isnt any contradictions unless you are looking for them , or unless you see God in one way and one way only ( i.e from a strict religious belief )
so yes i feel that they do work well together
