Hi chuckler, hope you had a Merry Christmas.

Eating cheese of any sort within an hour of going to bed is, contrary to all the nasty malicious rumours and gossip, actually very good for you - specially if you have a 'sweet tooth' and been munching or drinking sugar-laden goodies all evening.

Why, I hear you plead.

'Cos all cheeses are slightly alkaline (despite the lactic acid), and this helps to cancel the corrosive effect on teeth of scoffing choccies or boozing on cola etc. It's the equivalent of brushing your teeth thoroughly and then using a mouthwash (but not flossing).

So, if you do the mouse thing prior to bedding down - DON'T brush your teeth.

The idea that cheese causes nightmares is true! But it's true of eating ANYthing prior to bedding down - so if you're prone to nightmares ('cos you're a deeply disturbed individual), avoid eating for over an hour before going to bed, and see your psychiatrist. That way, cheese is good and healthy as a late night snack.

My favourite is a late night 4-cheese pizza.
Yum yum. Hooowwwllllllll.

That old tale has been around for so long it's grown a long grey beard.LOL I come from a long line of cheeselovers, and in our house growing up we used to nibble on cheese the way a lot of people dip into potato chips or eat cookies. There was nothing I liked better (still do) right before going to bed, than that last cuppa coffee (they say that's not good before bed either) along with a little chunk of cheese (Colby is my everyday-eating fave) with half an apple. I sleep like an old boot, and am healthy as horse. I don't know where either of those sayings come from either, but you know what I mean lol.

I think that we all have problems with weight because we eat late at night. That's it. Obviously everyone is going to tell you that eating late is not good but I'm going to tell you why we do it. Eating at night comforts us, coupled with that full feeling and your body working to digest it you get that tired feeling and drift off to sleep. It's a ficious cycle. Try not to eat 3 hours before bed. Decaf tea, water , and maybe milk to ween you off of eating at the begining is ok. Good luck.

I had a friend who would often eat strong cheese before bed to purposefully get weird dreams. Never seemed to do him any harm!
