Christmas has become so commericialized that it feels less and less like a celebration! I was having the same problem this year. Even though I spent a wonderful weekend with my extended family, I didn't feel "in the spirit" until later on yesterday and more today.
The difference was the choice that I willingly and consciously made - No matter how down I feel, I will CHOOSE to be happy and celebrate with the others. I talked with other people and enjoyed the time together. Even though the weather was rotten (down pours, flash flooding, tornado warnings) I did not ALLOW it to threaten my mood & feelings.
I am the only one in the entire plaza where I work! It could be depressing - but I turned it around to "this will be a good day to get some of those unfinished tasks done." And it gives me a little free time to try to help others - like yourself.
Joy comes not from what you get but from what you give! Find what you can do to help somebody else today, or even this week. Do it out of care for others and watch as you surprisingly find yourself happy again.

Hi, the feeling was mutual in the past for me. The older we get the more Christmas loses it's childhood magic, but now that I'm older and a Christian, I see the real meaning of Christmas which was celebrating Jesus (and not just as a cutsie baby). I find that when I give to others it makes me feel so good. So, this Christmas, my daughter, her dad, and I went to sing and pass out presents at a shelter, then the day of Christmas we had a treasure hunt for our daughter so she could find all her presents in the house and then afterwards we visited our families. If you don't have a family to visit, then make some in shelters, or even in your church. Invest in others and God will surely invest in you.

It is interesting that you mentioned that you used to sing in the church. I doubt it is a coincidence. Maybe you need to join the choir again. Participation is often the key to enjoying the holiday. If you are not interested in singing, there are many charity groups that could use your help. Nothing gives meaning to the holiday more than helping those in need.
That said, you may have a low grade depression or something of that nature. It would not be a bad idea to talk to your doctor about it. There may well be a simple, biological reason for your apathy this year. In the meantime, remember the things that you have to be thankful for, and consider getting more involved!

Perhaps you have lost sight of the real reason we celebrate - Jesus was born to bear the sins of the world, and our job as Christians is to spread His Gospel. How we do that varies - you used to sing in church. If you want to find a new outlet, try working a few hours at a homeless shelter, or take toys to your nearest children's hospital- there are lots of ways to spread Jesus' love.
Merry Christmas

The first eight words of your question hold the answer.
It is apparent to me that you were getting a sense of purpose, meaning and fulfillment from singing in Church.
Why did you quit?
May God Bless.

Talk to the choir director to see if you can't sing next year. Give more to charity, maybe. Adopt a family and help them through the next season.
