I know shoulder bealts work but why do we need air bags also. Seems to me the manufactures are making lots of money providing these as a stanrdard item.

A while back, we ran a call where a car had rear ended a tractor trailer. The car was traveling at about 50 MPH when it hit the truck, which was just starting to move at a traffic light. From the look of the car, we expected major injuries to the driver, at the least.

When we got to the car, there was no one in it. After a quick search to be sure, we asked the bystanders if anyone had seen the driver. A man walked up and said that he was driving the car. He had no injuries, other than some minor skin irritation from the air bag!

Airbags work and are well worth the money!!

Awww what a little baby, have your mommy kiss it and make it better. Depending on the year your clock spring could be bad because a lot were or not depending on year it just went bad because some do. The one in my car is bad, so I know there's a chance they won't deploy. Sure kid go ahead and try and sue, if a court will even hear it. Once some VW techs come check out your car they'll probably find that whatever caused the airbag to not deploy was due to you not keeping your car in proper working order. Your lawyer would love to take the case and your money. Also, go back to English class, your grammar sucks.

Well, there r some myths concerning airbags. frm wat i read frm other answerers...

FIRSTLY: Airbags r a Secondary safety feature. The primary safety device is the seat belt.

How a airbag works is that even thou u r restraint by the seatbelt, but there will be some body movement when during an accident. So, to FURTHER prevent any injuries the airbag comes into action by cushioning any other impact (thru front airbags, side airbags etc)

BUT for those who doesnt wear saetbelt but with airbags. IT KILLS the OCCUPANT instead. REASON?

In an accident, the vehicle will be stationary but the occupants r thrown forward (in a frontal crash)

The airbag is meant to open within microsecs so tat it will work to cushion ur impact instead against the steering wheel.

SO, for those without seatbelt, there is nothin to restaint the occupant, thus the force propelling the occupant and the force of the airbag going against the head of the occupant WILL SNAP the neck.

Yeah they have been proven to reduce the chance of serious injury when in a crash. It is much better to put your head into an in flated bag than the solid sterring wheel but just dont have your seat too close to the steering wheel cause when it goes off and your face is heading towards the still inflating bag, lets just say that you wont be winning any beuty contests in the future!! Sorry if your short in height!!!

read consumer reports. i know for a fact they not only work but save lives. I worked in a hospital for 16 years and was interactive with the emergency room staff, as well as the radiology dept. ( x-rays) and the CT scan staff. if, you are seriously in doubt you should pull up the research on crash stimulation tests for what ever automobile you are driving. air bags are not a luxury accommodation ( like superior sound systems in cars) they are a valid necessity that the manufactures build into their product to enhance the safety of their customers....

I know they work. the only reason for that is, is because one of my best friends got into a car accident a while back. She said that if she wouldn't have had an air bag she would be dead. well she was also wearing her seat belt to. so that helped her a little more. we need air bags for those who don't use their seat belts. i guess it helps them from not flying out of the ire car. The only thing with air bags i have noticed with my friend is that they leave burn marks on your arms, sometimes face, and on your legs if you are only wearing shorts or have holes in your pants. i hope that answered your question.
sincerely

As long as your over 12 years of age, airbags do save lives.

If used correctly, I imagine they do work. I'm going to guess that manufacturers aren't going to spend the time and money installing them in vehicles if there is no evidence that they work.
