(every strait line needs to equal 16). I give up. How about at least a clue (one number anywhere in the block)? Please don't leave us hanging.

Buster's question was " Solve this - draw a tic-tac-toe square...?
then try to fill it with the numbers 1-9. here's the catch - the sum of each row (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) must equal 16. "

The answer chosen for best did not even solve it, was still working on it.

That is what I came up with, too. Thanks for confirming that I was not crazy or something. I started the same way (the number in the middle.)

numbers in center:
1 = 2 equations (side middle or top middle)
2 = 2 equations (side middle or top middle)
3-9 = 3 equations (corners only)
No number has the required 4 equations to go in center.

It took me a while to figure this, but I don't think it's possible. It would take me too long to explain, but try every # in the center. The center # has to be in every sum of 16. 1 in the center, for example, wouldn't work because there's no place to put a 2or 3 or 4 or 5, to make 16. (1+5+10) 9 is the highest u can use. There is a problem with every # in the center. 7 for example, couldn't put a 4 anywhere, because you'd need two of them. I don't know if i'm making myself clear, but my answer is that it's not possible.
