Ideally 3 times a day.

Meat in the morning and evening, and starches at lunch time. Lamb fish, and maybe some chicken are best for meat. Organic basmati brown rice, organic oatflakes and organic rye bread are best for starches.

If you feed your dog natural and pure stuff, as I do, it is good to subsidies it also with vitamins and minerals, like multivits and Cod Liver Oil.

If you feed your dog industrially made food, I do not know the answer as sorry, I consider it to be rubbish I would not feed a rat, let alone my dog.

A dog of that size would need about 750 grams of fresh good quality meat per day, divided into halves morning and evening, and about 500 grams of cooked starches as above.

You should feel a dog's ribs, if you touch him on the side, if you don't, you overfeed him. Most obese dogs are fed on rubbish which is easy to overfeed.

My answer is not the cheapest, but assure you, the best for your dog. Many people decide between their dogs and their valets, and the valet usually wins.

Poor dogs! I hope yours will be a lucky one.

Feed him twice a day. 2-3 cups of food should be good. Feed him when he wakes up, then give him an hour outside. Then feed him a few hours before he goes to sleep and give him another hour outside right after he eats. If he gets overweight, limit the feeding to 1 cup morning and night.

As long as you keep a daily regimen, there's no wrong answer. Just don't leave his food out all day with unlimited amounts. He'll get too fat.

If your dog is over 1 yr old, feeding once per day is ok, but feeding twice per day is optimal, particularly if your dog has any digestive problems.
The amount you feed depends on the brand of food you provide. While Brand X may provide all the food requirements of your dog with 3 cups per day, the inferior Brand Y may require 4.5 cups. As a general rule, pick a good quality food (here's mine http://www.nutroproducts.com/naturalchoicedog.asp ) and stick with it-don't switch back & forth to whatever's on sale as it may upset your dog's stomach. Follow the recommendations on the packaging which usually tells you how many cups to feed per pound of your dog's weight-note that this is actual MEASURED CUPS, not just a coffee cup full, which can be anywhere fromn 6 to 20 oz. Then adjust monthly acording to your dogs progress and shape. Ribs should be able to be felt, but not protruding, shape should be tapered in the back, not barrell shaped front to rear. Adjust up or down 1/2 cup if your dog gets over/under weight, gice it a month to see of it works, then adjust again if necessary. Here is a great guide to determine your dogs weight status: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1660&articleid=661
One last tip....snacks and treats add up, use sparingly as they are not intended to be the primary food source and usually do not give much in the way of nutrients, just flavor & calories.

Feed once in the morning & evening, around the same time every day,,,,always insure that there is fresh water available all the time........Feed a good brand of dog food & follow the amount advised on the bag, be consistent on the brand of food, Don`t over feed as an over weight dog is not good .......don`t feed too many snacks in between..........

Your dog needs about a cup or two of dry food in the morning followed by a can of wet dog food in the evening. If he or she is still hungry, give him or her half another can too. Try not to under or over feed.

the number of times a day to feed your dog is twice a day, you don't want to feed him too many times a day or he will gain too much weight. As for how much you should give him at each feeding I would ask your vet if I were you for safety sake.

A dog of any size/breed/mix/age should be fed twice daily. It is healthier for them and better for their digestive system.
As for amount to feed read the guideline on the bag and adjust as needed per weight of the dog..if overweight lower amount fed, if underweight increase amount..remember to divide the total amount in half and feed 1 half in am , 1 half in pm.

Most bags/cans of dog food will tell you, based on weight of the dog, how much to feed him. Some dogs can be *trusted* to be self feeders meaning you basically add food to their dish when it's empty. This method doesn't work for all dogs but it certainly is an easy method of feeding if it works for yours.

2 times a day, and follow the directions on the bag for the amount. different food tells you to fed different amounts, you do not want to over feed (or under feed!) your dog!!
