I have found some information for those of you that may be interested. A pork pie (the king of pies) is affectionately known in some circles as a growler (not just in yorkshire) We can only guess that the reason for this is either that they make your stomach growl after eating them or that some of them bite!

I have never heared of pork pies being called growlers, it's news to me !

I am from Yorkshire and we call sausages 'growlers', Pork pies don't have a similar name.

You must live in or have visited England. Here in the USA, we love the Brits - but those meat pies they eat are just GROSS.

probably because they use the same meat that goes into dog food they smell like chum
