Meditation is the attempt to take the mind back for its rightful owner. The ego has hijacked the mind and is pretending to be you, as you sit back confused and believing the egos lies.

This has gone on so long that you believe that the ego really is you and that you are the ego.

When you attempt to pacify the mind you sit quietly watching the egos thoughts go by. As soon as you notice them and label them as thoughts they disappear.

Why is this?

This happens because the ego realizes that If you truly understand that you exist separate from these thoughts you will understand that they are not truly your thoughts but the egos.

If you once understood this you would realize your power in the situation and take your mind back from the ego.

Your power to do this is the egos greatest fear, as its rule is based on deception.

No, you've got it wrong. Meditation is not to pacify the mind but to free it - meditation gets rid of all the preconceptions and opens up your senses to enable you to experience life to the full.

Distinguish between Mind and the Brain--- Body and the Soul. Mind and Soul have inherent links outside the Brain and the Body. Meditate yourself on different Glorious Names of The Supreme in different religions and you shall know the effect of each. Donot utter a sound, donot move your lips and tongue. Meditate with your and within your heart. You shall be speechless, as I am, in answering the Asker.
