My mom had surgery and it was real expensive and when it came down to it the insurance did not cover all of it she is on SS. She called and talked to the business dept at the hosp. & the Dr office. A lady in the business office told her Dr & hosp could write so much off every year but people do not know this. They ended up writing it off so she did not have to pay. This is in Texas maybe it will be the same where you live Hope this helps

Speak with the hospital billing supervisor or the hospital administrator and they will help you to set up a payment plan that you can afford. With most hospitals this payment plan will be interest free. Also, if your Mothers estate cannot cover the bill and your father is not in the picture, the hospital will likely have to absorb the costs. See an attorney and ask, the asking part is usually free.

Almost all hospitals have a charity write off program. Speak to the billing department and explain your income situation and the income of your mother. Chances are you'll just have to fill out some paperwork and if you meet the qualifications, the bill will be partially or completely written off. If there is a remaining balance, most hopsitals will accept ANYTHING as payment as long as it's consistent. I didn't have insurance when I got stuck in the hospital for a week and they get $5.00/month...I'll prolly be dead before it's paid off, but it's not on my credit report :)

Play hard knows with hospital.

Write them a letter explaining that you have go-gobs of creditors knocking on your door and that in the spirit of compromise, you want to see if the hospital can reduce the bill to an affordable amount consistent with what Medicare or an insurer pays which is about 30% - 50% on the dollar.

Send the letter certified.

If they offer you an affordable amount, set up a payment plan by accepting the offer in writing and provide a schedule of payments that you can agree to.

And for goodness sakes, KEEP CURRENT on the PAYMENT PLAN.

The three rules of credit repair is (1) document (2) document and (3) document.

Most hospitals have a Charity Care that will either pay the entire bill or decrease the bill and make a payment plan for you.....Speak to the hospital Social Worker and they will point you into the right direction......Also have the Social Worker call the county or state medical insurance providers and have them come to the hospital to get the information needed to file for Insurance through the state.

First talk with the hospital's finance dept and negotiate a payoff price. You'll be surprised at how accomodating some hospital's are (mine does what's in the best interest of the community).

Second, work out a payment plan that you can afford.

I see these two steps taken all the time.

See if you can work out some sort of payment plan with the hospital. You may not be able to pay the whole thing, but at least you're showing them you're making a good faith effort. You could also look into some sort of public assistance to help you.

Talk to the finances department at the hospital, they may be willing to work out a payment plan for you. It may cost you hundreds of dollars a month, but its better than paying it all right now.

Some hospitals have programs to help with your hospital bills. There are also services you may qualify for through the county welfare agency, or other agencies.

I have high hospital bills also, explain the situation to them and they'll take what they can get. you can't give them what you haven't got but, you can give them an explanation. I go down there from time to time, and explain it to them and get ready to show them my recipes, from the month, to prove my point.
