They need love and lots of prayer. Ask them to come to church with you. Do something thoughtful for them. Invite them for dinner at your house. Send them a message on the mobile. Give them a bible and share with them Jesus Love & Mercy.

This is an interesting topic. Earlier in my life, I was fixated with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. I have a little experience in this area. First and foremost, the great majority of people who commit suicide that we could help DO NOT WANT TO DIE. This is the reason there are so many warning signs and precursors to the act. First, they have to be taken seriously as a person, if you are looking past them to the act of suicide itself, you will only further irritate them typically. Second, they need relationships. They need to know someone will really care for them. This includes after initial help. Remember, suicide is not wanting to die. It is feeling like you have no other choice. If a person can be helped through their initial act or attempt, and can avoid it, statistics show they have a great chance at going on to live. The meat of your question is answered in relationships. You must form a trusting, loving relationship with the person, and help them attach a meaning of life through you. If you become their only link, then you should show them the meaning of life through your actions.

The Purpose of Creation
The purpose of creation is a topic that puzzles every human being at some point of his or her lifetime. Although most people put the question of why we are created aside after occasional brief reflection, it is extremely critical for human beings to know the answer. Without knowledge of the correct answer, human beings become indistinguishable from the other animals around them. The animal necessities and desires of eating, drinking and procreating become the purpose of human existence by default, and human effort is then focussed in this limited sphere.

Without knowledge of the purpose of life, human existence loses all meaning and is consequently wasted, and the reward of an eternal life of happiness in the hereafter is completely destroyed.

Humans most often turn to other human beings like themselves for the answers. However, the only place that clear and precise answers to these questions can be found is in the books of divine revelation. It was necessary that God reveal the purpose to man through His prophets, because human beings are incapable of arriving at the correct answers themselves. All of the prophets of God taught their followers the answers to the question "Why did God create man?"

People who wish to commit suicide need to be reminded of the many people their lives touch and how sad and disappointed they would be to see that person gone. Then they need to be boosted into doing more for those around them in order to give them purpose and will to live.

Life has no meaning. That doesn't mean we should kill ourself. Meaning is about end results or goals. there is no goal. Life is about the trip, the experience of living. That doesn't give us the right to do anything we please. Real freedom is the opprotunity to be responsible for your own behavior. Being responsible within the context of the society we exist in gives us ample opprotunity to live live and enjoy the trip with out the expectation that it should mean something.

We need to help them... not with words... but by doing things for them in order to show them that we care and that it is possible to better their life.

This might just restore their faith in humanity.

Don't yell at... or abuse someone who is suicidal... as it will only push them over the edge. When they are at that stage... they don't care about what we have to say... they want physical help... not words...

The solution is to help them to get over themselves, and think of others. Concentrating on ourselves can cause depression.

That being said, I know of no other way to change a person inside than through the infusion of the spirit of God into them.

God seems to be the only one that can change a persons thoughts from themselves to others.

The only way we should guide them is to the quickest and most painless way to do it.
The fact is, the vast majority of people that threaten suicide are simply looking for attention.
Those that actually do it rarely advertize the fact before hand.
So, call their bluff.
