What do you think of going back to the Latin mass? I heard that the Pope is concidering it. While a part of me likes this idea, I am hesitant. I think that if it's all Latin, all the time, we will see a sharp decline of Catholics. No one will attend if they can't understand what is being said. Maybe a trial period of one mass a day in Latin for two years?

What are your thoughts? And please, no rude answers.

I've not heard that the Pope is doing this, what I have heard is that he may alow or encourage some parishes to have a Latin mass. along with the regular vernacular. I would hate to be forced to attend an all Latin mass all the time, but occassionally would be nice. It was in Latin because originally, it was the one language most educated people all knew. (in essence, the common language). then Vatican 2 decided it just didn't make sense (litierally) to continue with a Mass most people no longer understood. I am too young to remember the Mass in Latin. Would love to hear it once tho. Wouldn't want to have it permanently.

I am not Catholic, but my Parents and eight (8) of my sisters are! We spoke of this over Christmas and they are all in agreement with you. It seems a bit odd to go back to a Latin speaking Mass when less than 2 percent of the total Church speaks Latin. They all agree that the Mass is lovely in Latin but to understand what is actually being said is much more beneficial! We speak English and although we are Spanish, a Latin Mass would only manage to irritate them.
Good Luck with your answers!

First off, let's define our terms. "The Latin Mass" in this case is Mass celebrated using the 1962 liturgical books. Currently, a priest must have specific permission from his bishop to celebrate this liturgy. The proposed change allegedly would give priests the right to celebrate it unless the bishop specifically disallows it. I love the 1962 liturgy, and I welcome anything that would help make it more available, but I don't think this is going to do it. The previous pope directed bishops to be generous in allowing celebrations, but the vast majority of them weren't. Many bishops are hostile toward it, and they will just disallow celebrations. Very little will change. 99.9% of Masses will still be exactly what you are used it. It is highly unlikely the average Catholic will be affected in any way by this.

The Catholic church is a non-Christian cult that distorts the Word of God.

The Catholic church says Mary was sinless, but God's Word says ALL have sinned. The Catholic church is calling God a liar.
