I ask because I am told a mad person will believe they are sane. Is this the same for a hypochondriac? Does the simple fact that I am thinking I could be a hypochondriac mean I am not?

A hypochondriac is someone who finds things wrong with themselves and is consistently going to the Dr. to seek attention.
Hope this helps.

Of course hypochondriacs do not believe they are hypochondriacs, they truly believe they are sick and since the definition of a hypochondriac is someone who is not ill, but believes themselves to be, they would not classify themselves as a hypochondriac.

I also believe hypochondriacs make themselves sick with all their worrying and obsessing. Every single hypochondriac I know has ended up with a serious illness and I believe they give it to themselves. The power of suggestion is very strong, and many people believe that you are what you think you are. If you think you are a failure, you fail. If you think you are a hard-worker, you become one and if you think you are sick, you get sick.

If I were in your shoes I would go to a professional counselor and see if he can sort this out for you.

Good luck and I wish you good health and long life.
