Marshalls are important because of people that have attitudes like yours. If you were the only one on the golf course, then you would have a valid point. But others paid the same amount of money that you did, and should have the ability to play a more advanced game of golf without being held up by someone that would rather be out there goofing around, giving course marshalls the future. It's kind of like driving 35 mph on the outerbelt during rush hour, because I just enjoy being in my car and don't care how fast I go or what it does to screw up someone else's day.

By the way, if you are such a poor golfer, why go to a course where the greens fees are so high? If you are looking to learn and improve your game, why not go to a more affordable golf course and maybe even take a lesson or two?

It's important to have Marshals on the course to help where needed. They can also help with the pace of play. A round of golf with a four ball should take ideally 4 hours to play. Once you get past the 5 hour mark, people tend to get annoyed at the people holding them up. It's possible to have a great time on the course and still keep pace. If you don't like discipline on the course then I wish they would make a course that only lets people on that don't give a rats a** about rules , etiquette, or anyone else and let all those that feel that way play there and all those that want to play the way golf was traditionally conceived, on a different course...but of course I'm dreaming on that one. But who knows...there are courses in the British Isles that won't allow you to play unless you have a 12 handicap or better...If only I could find one of those in America.

Marshalls are SUPPOSED to help speed up play. On some courses they also have water and ice with them and actually try to be helpful.

But the primary job of a course marshall is keep play moving. No one likes a 5 + hour round and even those that go out just to drink and have fun with their buddies would not enjoy waiting on every shot - that gets real old fast!

Players that are extremely inexperienced should consider first playing par 3 courses to try and get the "flow" of playing.

Players that pay $65.00 or more to play golf should do just that - PLAY GOLF!

NO all they do is look for golf balls. The best way is to have programs that help people learn how to play and teaches them the rules of the course before they start playing
