The hols are ending in a week and I cant get to sleep earlier than 4am. This spells doom for my first day, especially because it'd be a new instituition, and I dont want to appear all haggard and cranky.
How can I get myself back to my normal bedtime routine asap?

You need to make yourself tired, keep busy all day doing anything that will not only keep your mind busy but also your body.
Such as go hiking, rearrange your home & do a deep cleaning, anything that will tire you out.

I take an over the counter antihistamine that contains diphenhydramine. I worked midnights and had a hard time falling asleep during the day. I only took one of the two pills recommended. They helped me fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer.I would take one around 9 pm. Hopefully you will be asleep by 11pm. But don't abuse them. You can depend on them if you use them alot. Just use for a couple of days to get you back on track. I wish you sweet dreams.

Go for regular exercises and try to listen to some soothing music before going to bed. The more the tired you are the more quick you sleep. Do not think of any topic, or be anxious when on bed. Else try some tranquilizer for few days consulting a doctor.

Never take sleeping tablets.

It is only tempory,has negative side effects.
Sleeping problems are mental problems.

There is definately something wrong in your inner peace.
Find it and solve it You ve got to face it

you can take melatonin{which is a drug desgined to help you sleep and its over the counter]
