Here is what wikipedia says and I believe from my knowledge and reading on the event it is acurate
"On January 30, 1948, on his way to a prayer meeting, Gandhi was shot dead in Birla House, New Delhi, by Nathuram Godse. Godse was a Hindu radical with links to the extremist Hindu Mahasabha, who held Gandhi responsible for weakening India by insisting upon a payment to Pakistan"
Good Luck!!!

well it pains me when people write an answer like "no idea" just to get 2 points. If you dont know the answer then jusyt keep quite.
It shows the level of education our country is harbouring. We should make a chapter on Indian History a part of General Knowledge subject in all our class rooms, so that no body gets to ask a question like what you have asked. But the inquisitiveness itself is a part of education. He was a victim of frustrated personal vendetta. Partly it was a plot also from the British East India Company's frustration. I am not saying that it was the BRITISH who did it. It was the higher ups of the East India Company who wanted the give the image of the Queeen, a bad name.

you have killed him again. He was Gandhiji.
I think it was mainly an after effect of partition..wherein
lakhs of people have been killed because of hindu-muslim hatred.
May be Godse thought..it would not have occurred if Gandhi
intervened and avoided partition. There is a book by name
WHY I KILLED MAHATMA.I have read it.go through once.
it is published from PUNE........find out the publisher...interesting.

How about JFK, MLK, Jr., and so many other seemingly influential, spiritual, powerful, sensible people....
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” ~ M.G.
“Whenever you are confronted with an opponent. Conquer him with love.” ~ M.G.
“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.” ~ M.G.
“There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever” ~ M.G.
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” ~ M.G.
“We must become the change we want to see.” ~ M.G.
~~~~~~~I did not kill him, nor did I nor would I order his death. So, I do not know why it happened.
