There is a pathway connecting the throat with the ear;it's called the eustachian tube. More specifically, connecting the pharynx with the middle ear. It helps equalize pressure from the two areas, sadly it also provide the portal for germs to travel as well.

because they are all connected together- and when most people have a sore throat or a cold they take a medicine from over the counter to dry up the flow of snot- Flem etc.... it goes somewhere- and if it can't come out it goes in--- and can build up pressure or give you an infection in your ear---- try to use herbal remedies whenever possible for colds and sore throats ( your throat gets sore because your body is killing the bad guys in there and with them some of the good cells as well-- this makes your throat sore- means your body is doing it's job) try garlic pills they are a great anti viral-- but not if you have high blood pressure because they thin the blood
