actually she's the maid so it really creeps me out. each time i catch her eye, she immediately turns away. she claims she cannot speak english properly but sometimes when i try to tell her sth, she raises her eyebrows in this defiant way. i'm not her employer, i can't fire her.

actually, it happens when i'm totally immersed in my work or not thinking about anything in particular and suddenly, this weird feeling passes over and sure enough, there she is, just passing by. can't be my imagination can it?

Nearly everyone has a feeling of discomfort when being stared at! I would not call you overly sensitive especially if the look you are receiving is not so nice!
If this person is making you uncomfortable, and it happens to me, I usually look directly at them and say something. Not mean, I just put them on the 'Spot' which usually sends the packing.
Ask a question like one of these and see if this works:
Look them directly in the eye and smile saying "Is there something I can help you with?" or "Is there something you need?" or "I'm, sorry, were you going to say something?" or one of the best ones I came up with, and we were standing in a department store, "Would you mind handing me the mustard, please?" They look a bit confused and turn away! lol
If none of these seem to be working I would suggest the direct approach! "Your staring is making a bit uncomfortable, is there something you wanted?"
I have learned that most people, who stare, have very little to say and either move away or actually ask the question they have been too afraid to ask. Now, if this person freaks you out I suggest you keep your distance and when asking the question keep your voice firm. Don't be mean or nasty, because you never know, with whom, you are dealing. Male and Females alike, can be a bit, well, lets just say there is some rather unsavory people out there that you can do without.

Yes, you might be. Depends of what kind of people look at you. If they are painters or artists they look at you with the ways they would draw and paint you or see you singing on the stage with a microphone in the hand. Or if they are money inclined, they try to guess how much they could get out of you.
They are many more examples but if you are aware of these people looking at you if because you are taking notice of them in the first place.

My guess is she hates being a maid or subserviant to anyone....and she's trying to get a grasp on what makes you so different that you arent one too. I wouldnt take it as flattery or negative......she justs wants to know what she can do differently so she can get a maid.

Stare back, in the same way they do. I always like to give them a taste of their own medicine

Yeah she sounds dodgy to me. Trust your insticts.

Next time she stares at you say:

"is there something I can help you with?" OR
"is there something stuck in my teeth/hair?"

She's probably watching to see what you are doing so she doesn't get caught doing whatever it is she's doing wrong as she seems to only watch when you're busy doing something else!!!

either ignore them or smile back. People tend to ignore those they do not like or find attractive. Smiling will encourage so go by your gut instinct. Sometimes it is best to ignore, especially in this day and age.

She is probably just checking you out, wait until she does it and catch her eye and say "hello", this could be the start of a beautiful friendship. (check for bogie's first)

No your not overly sensitive, it sounds like this person is trying to make you feel uncormfortable on purpose. Try to avoid this person, he is up to no good.

Many societies call that the evil eye. I wouldn't like it either.
