Currently, I live alone & the best place for me to have my "office" is in the kitchen. There's enough room for both a desk and a small kitchen table. I cook a lot, and being able to work/surf the web while I cook works real well for me.
Any general thoughts are appreciated.

As I answer this I'm sitting at my "work station" in my kitchen. I live alone, have no kitchen table and chairs, and spend as much time here, as anywhere else in the house.
Nothing Goofy about it. Each of us SHOULD craft our lives by using OUR standards, not those of others, or any trendy decorating magazines.

It's your house and if it works for you, go for it! I wish I had my computer nearer to the kitchen myself. They are the two places I most often occupy my time in and around, so my opinion is do it. Doesn't seem goofy or bachloresque in the least possible way, though interior design is not my forte.

Most new homes have workstations built in...a great place to pay bills, surf for recipes and for kids to do their homework. If it works for you, GO FOR IT...why don't you add some potted herbs on your desk, it might make the desk seem less-obtrusive in the space.

I am married with kids, have desk in kitchen. It is popular in kitchens that have room to accomadate them. Very practical.
