It depends on a few things. The first and foremost consideration is the nature of the operation they were on. Sometimes it can be considered important to wait until the operation is completed or a certain part of the op is complete in order to keep from disclosing info vital to the op. Sometimes it can be within hours if the soldiers are on routine policing activities. Either way when the media discloses the division or battalion hit, there aren't many wives and family that are gonna have a nice Christmas until SOMEONE gets notified. Standard protocol is to be as efficient as reasonably possible in notifying the next of kin.

because many human beings imagine all Iraqis are effectively terrorists and hence don't have any sympathy for them. not all and sundry of course, yet a huge minority. i will under no circumstances ignore the sinking feeling I felt interior the 90s at the same time as those scud missiles were embarked on Iraq and at the same time as they released i'd ask your self the position they'd land and what number detrimental harmless human beings were about to die. i ought to under no circumstances watch those computing gadget pictures the position you will see that them aiming at targets both. i understand lots of them straight away targetted the enemy - besides the indisputable fact that it appeared too very such as a computing gadget recreation - except with actual human beings. Made me experience sick. Edit: There you're - the guy above me has proved my factor. Many human beings do not make a huge massive difference between "civilian" and "terrorist". in a large number of circumstances that's not their fault - that's what their media tell them. considering 0.5 of human beings do not even personal a passport, or have ever travelled overseas - they extremely do not understand very a lot about some thing else of the international.

Having lost several friends over there, I can tell you they notify the families ASAP. Holiday or not, there are always representatives on call to do the notification. With todays media being as it is, they cannot delay, they do not want a widow(er) or parent finding out from the news.

Notification comes very quickly, families who have next of kin in Iraq cringe when they see a miliatry car pull up and two uniformed personal get out, as its bad news, when I was wounded in Viet Nam, my family already knew before I got a chance to arrange a call home to tell them I was okay, they had been waiting to hear from me and that call was made by me two days later after being wounded and medivaced

I don't think the military is a compassionate organization. It is a hard boiled rules and regulation type of outfit. They probably will send a branch chaplin along with a high ranking officer to break the news to the family as soon as possible.

It seems to me that the notifiers wait until the holiday is over and then notify the families about it.

They try to notify you the same day it happened if possible. The would notify you as soon as they can, the body has to be identified and such. My brother died this July in Iraq and we found out the day it happened.

Twenty-four to 48 hours, at the most. In almost every case. Even during holidays.

no the goverment have to notify the family first thing asap, as the family would not be allowed to hear it on the news. this is what happens, it would be so devastating and would not be fair on the family.
