I get 2 icons on my taskbar in the shape of sea mines , informing me of critical errors and promoting a virus software called “virusbursters” how do I erase the icons (its constantly popping into screen)

Remove the programs from your startup files (type msconfig in the Run box). In the future, don't install random software.

If you deside to use system restore then make sure that this software is turned off before you actualy use the system restore function other wise you will restore the virus as well.
1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
2. Update the virus definitions.
3. Run a full system scan.
4. Delete any values added to the registry.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html

type msconfig from dos more or go to run and type msconfig then click the startuop tab and search for the virus name and uncheck that, save and exit

NEVER USE MSCONFIG get superantispyware it will clean it
