No, because they are too immature for the most part to be trusted with high velocity firearms.

I have noticed some of the younger coppers "swagger" around the Airports, weapons across the chest.

The Firearms officers are well trained, but sadly the average on the beat plod just about manages to cope with their condascending attitude towards the general public, while letting immigrants who claim "no English, no English" to go on about their business.

The day they begin to treat everyone equally and not be afraid of possible cries of racism from the illegals and foreigners we have here, then perhaps they will have the maturity and correct attitude to be trusted with more tools to help methods of law enforcement.

In the main you are correct, however each force has an obligation to the public to supply a number of ARV's or Armed Respnce Vehicles, the officers in these vehicles are only armed when a spontaious firearms incident is innitiated, there are also police officers at specific locations, like some airports who are armed all the time. If a major incident started they are also able to call upon the skills of the TFT's tactical firearms teams whi have the weapons in a locked safe in the trunk of specialist vehicles

The armed response teams have guns. Only long serving police officers with spotless records who pass psychological profiling can join this unit.

If all the UK cops had guns then they would work a lot better and crime would go down - after all the cops in the USA have guns and we never hear of any crimes over there! Actually thinking about it the level of crime would not alter at all!

no and long may it last some of them cause enough havoc without guns...and before you think I'm bitter too right I am.... I have no criminal record and am totally law abiding but I have seen lives totally ruined by behaviour of officers I am ashamed to call police watching them close ranks and the PCA allow it to happen.... in my opinion guns would give more power to those within the force who think they are above the law when they don the uniform instead of protecting and serving the public which after all is why they are paid

Several silly answers from people who have never been in a UK airport where police patrol cradling sub machine guns

Not all police in English police forces are armed all the time. Most are not armed all the time. They are armed when they're on duties in respect of which arms may be required.

The vast majority of the population in the UK do not own firearms (and of those who do, for the vast majority it's a double-barrelled shotgun owned). As far as violent crime in the UK is concerned, you're much more likely to be knocked over the head, strangled, stabbed or ripped open with a knife than you are to be shot .

no they do not in general & they should never have them.
they do have an asp (telescopic truncheon) & a mace type spray that they are more than generous with.
on the whole a policeman (pig copper filth) in the uk is not to be trusted, they lie to suit their own ends & will quite readily take bribes. they will perjure themselves on the stand to get a conviction wether they think you are the guilty party or not as long as they get the pat on the back from above.

I believe they should be armed also with the gun of choice by officers.

It's a good job they are not armed as we have seen what happens when someone runs in the underground system. 6 bullets to the head of an innocent man :(

Generally yes, but more and more 'special services' have them.

Day to day bobbies do have CS gas spray, which they thoroughly enjoy using, and the good old truncheon to beat the do-do out of you if they feel like it.
