Amazes me how many wriggles the religious fraternity use to avoid the blindingly obvious flaws in the bible. One was the comment - "This is false teachings". This is not faith, it is pure unwillingness to even consider the possibility that there can be anything wrong with the bible. The fact the book contradicts itself and is compiled in a historically dubious fashion should alert people to the fact it is a book of opinions - something they are not prepared to accept on Yahoo apparently! Comments?

"You presume me to be an atheist" - check out my forum name! As for "prove to me where the bible is wrong" - it is not for an atheist to disprove religion but for you to prove it. However I would start with Genisis and talking snakes. I kinda fall over on that hurdle.

Re : "Can we not just take it (the bible) as it is.? Would that be so bad.?? "
Yes. If we did not challenge statements, we would all be believing the church when they said the world was flat and the sun is the centre of the universe. We cannot cherry pick what we believe. As I have said before, find a piece of scientific (key word) evidence against evolution and I would stop believing it tomorrow.

To the one who shouts (CAPS) - you cannot 'believe in Atheism' - I know this is difficult for someone like you who has to believe something, but atheism is not a religion, it is the result of not believing.

Don't waste time trying to get religious people to think and be rational.
Their religions hold the highest honour in ignorance and rejecting reality in favour of their holy fairytale.
They're not worthy of reasoned debate. Its amusing to see them say 'disprove the bible if you can' - geez where to start? Its all utter rubbish.
As for the person who said 'what will you do if you're wrong and you die and meet God?' well I'd say 'Why did you only want stupid, ignorant people to believe in you? Why were you such an evil **** in the bible?' I might say the same sorts of things if I died and was met with an angry leprechaun. I think the odds are just about the same.

It may be worth thinking about when and why the Bible was written. For some the Creation story is an allegory or metaphor to explain that God created the world - for some it should not be taken literally. So perhaps the Bible was not written to be dissected as a historical document, but a subjective story to explain things to a group of people (the Isrealites).
Lots of the Bible has been proven to be archaelogically correct - ie the Exodus of the Isrealites from Egypt is documented in Egyptian writing. The existence of Jesus has been well documented by Herodetus.
Even for a non believer the Bible offers a lot - so I would encourage you not to rubbish it all. I found many parellels with Bible teachings and generally good living:
being kind to others
being kind to yourself
searching for truth
being true to yourself
having a positive outlook
recognising that when you are going through a difficult time that "this too shall pass"
One of the good things about the Bible is that it consistently records human fraility, weakness and redemption. One only has to look at King David for an example of a man of God who often went astray. In this way, it is an honest account of the human condition.
Why not have a read - it is not the best selling book for nothing.

you say that it is a fact that the Bible contradicts itself and is compiled in a historically dubious fashion, well is that a fact, really, I notice you do not show any example of your so called facts, and I bet you have not even read the Bible yourself to either prove or disprove it to be so!And if so how can you honestly say this about the book without even checking it out or reading at least some of it would you like to be judged in this same manner? I think not, well whatever the fact you believe are facts the thing you must know is this: if the Bible truly does contradict itself as you claim, then it is amazing that even though the Book has had so much opposition in the past as well as these days, that it is still available to almost every person on earth, but if it is true then no-one will be able to touch it or put it out of circulation, now isn't that what shopuld be expected from God's word? And isn't that what has been the case, there is no other book that has had more opposition, than the Bible, people were burned at the stake for just posessing a Bible, but the Bible has not been destroyed as the intention has been to destroy it, Just because you wish to discredit, the Bibl,e so much, does, not, make it dubious or false even with your false statements with out any backup to show your so caled facts!!!!!!!
No offence but I cannot believe your so called facts they have not been made apparent by you! And rightly so because you cannot make them apparent or you would have done if you could, I'm sure.

The key lies in absorbing everything which makes good sense using even limited reasoning and no complicated philosophy..
Quote(Anais Nin)
-----------------------
When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow.
-----------------------
This is exactly true with belief which especially gives you no right to question, yes such beliefs are self contradictory because if you have faith, you should be able to question(and provide good answers to) your faith, otherwise you don't have much faith do you?! Radical fanaticism should be avoided in all religions, this includes trying level best to prove that one's own religion is the best in the world, and existence of other religions is a deterrent towards a peaceful society. Such thoughts are the basis of all hatred.
It's better to be an atheist if there is no religious awakening which teaches you love/compassion/spirituality and nothing else.

I think people like to find contradictions in anything. The bible being their number one book and thing to pick on.
Why do we have to do this. Can we not just take it as it is.? Would that be so bad.??
Yes it may have contradictions but we also have to understand it was written by men. Godly men but men none the less, men have faults and we all know this.
Men being mankind not just men, I am meaning men and woman.
I agree with you that some do not even want to listen to others views and tell that person will go to hell because the do not believe what they believe. I feel sad about that.

What you are bucking is tradition. I think that no one respects anything more than tradition, I can not say why. Have you ever noticed firms that slap Established 19xx on their buildings. It looks kind of silly at first, but then after a while you think (and I am guilty of it) hey, these bastards have been at it a long time; they must know what they are doing.

Yep, that's right, but the interesting thing that for instance religion like Islam in the quran it tells you how ignorant were "infidels", it says "they were closing their ears when hearing the truth, they indeed out of brain", today if you question islam in front of many muslims, they close their ears, or they say "you don't know anything about islam" or you have agenda. etc.
