Its pretty rediculous to try to keep up with every special day and holiday that demands gift giving ... who gets what when ... is it too much ... is the right color ... should I get a gift receipt ... she got me more than I got her ... monthly "anniversaries" ... if women ruled the world we all be shopping endlessly. Its all very inconvienient.
Its not like women give men what they really want for Chrsitmas either. So what if a guy gets a flowers, a build-a-bear, a mug, or a book of quotations from his girlfriend/wife, is that really supposed to count for something?
Why do relationships have to be so defined by materialism anyway?
There's some more weak reasons, but I actually give my wife lots of stuff, even randomly throughout the year, in self-defense. Every year on holidays, I buy tons and tons and tons of junk for her, way over the top until it hurts, rarely knowing whether its really what she wants, just so she can't say I didn't try.
Even when we shop together and she buys stuff for herself, it ends up getting returned. I think women just get too caught up in the holiday spirit, like little kids, that's okay I guess, and fun to watch, but not for more than three hours at the mall.

Something he can actually use. Most guys do not want the sentimental bauble that just sits around and does nothing. But it's also different for every guy so you have to know the guy and what he likes. But that isn't hard since most guys don't hide who they are. Alert Alert Alert. Guys do not like cologne or watches. They will smile and thank you but trust me they don't want cufflinks, ties, watches, etc... Trust me if you look at the guy you will know. He's all surface. Your friend is right. Something related to the hobby. In this case music. Please do not go shopping for clothes I can promise you that you will not get him what he would get himself. Again he'll smile and thank you and maybe even wear it once but guys have closet corners full of stuff the gf bought.

Some girls are gold diggers. If the relationship is too young, some of these guys are seeing what kind of girl he has just entered a relationship with. Or, some of these guyrs are lazy and don't care.
I had a girlfriend once who I learned was a gold digger. We were only dating for a month, and on her birthday, I sent her a card. She moved to the other side of the U.S., and her card didn't get there yet. She complained about it not getting there on her day exactly. Then she complained that I just got her a card and nothing more expensive. And she didn't seem to see how ridiculous she was being. That pretty much was the beginning of the end of our relationship among various other problems.

Sounds like they're just cheap. Find a real guy,not a cheap little boy. I never heard of anybody so cheap that they didn't get their significant other a gift for Christmas, what a bunch of losers!

Maybe you know a lot of guys who are like that. I think it depends on the guy. Maybe more girls give presents but that's because it's a more female activity, shopping and giving (more shopping I suspect). I know some guys who seem to give truckloads away, way more than me or most females I know.

I think it is because they really don't know what to get them so they decide that instead of get the wrong gift they don't get one at all. Boys are really dumb like that, they should really just grow a back bone and ask her what she wants for Christmas.

I know PLENTY of girls who don't give their boyfriends anything. I know a guy who gave his g/f a CAR (yes, a frigging CAR) for Christmas a few years back. Guess what he got in return? A break up.
